Anyone else think the 2014 World Cup could end up being a little dodgy?

From Marca:

Seventy-six percent of Brazilians believe that the 2014 World Cup will lead to an increase in corruption, according to a poll whose results were released today by the Datafolha Institute.
Despite this fear, 90% of the people surveyed by Datafolha believe that hosting the World Cup will be "important" for the country.
However, only 50% admitted to having a high level of personal interest in the event, with 28% of respondents saying that they are "a little interested" and 22% claiming they are "not at all interested".
There is even less interest in Brazil in the Confederations Cup, which will take place in mid-2013 and serve as a sort of dress rehearsal for the 2014 World Cup.
Only 32% of respondents claimed to be "very interested" in the Confederations Cup, 34% said they were "somewhat interested" and 35% stated they were totally indifferent to the competition.
Datafolha also asked respondents about which aspects of hosting the World Cup they were most worried about, with 60% listing a lack of security on streets as their primary concern.
The poll was carried out on 13th December, involved questioning 2588 people from 160 municipalities, and has a margin of error of two percentage points.

It's not particularly the World Cups that are dodgy, it's the people who run them. Get a magnifying glass and just place it over FIFA!

Will they burn like ants?

Corruption is rife in that country (same as all South American countries really) I was there not long back and they are building like mad, new hotels, stadiums and railway stations (without toilets the fools) For those that are going wait until you see São Paulo never seen anywhere as big I think they have 15 million people in the city.

I'm sorry but the exploits surrounding South Korea in the 2002 world cup tell me otherwise.

-- Wed Dec 26, 2012 1:40 pm --
