Kova was always nicknamed as the professor (amongst his fellow Croatian teamates) as he spent his spare time studying videos of the world's best midfielders. He has come here to learn (not disappear to Saudi).

According to the Bluemoon archives we had a chance to sign him in 2018 but he ended up at Chelsea.

I think he regrets that.

According to the Bluemoon archives we were also in for Alen Halilovic (aged 15) who went on to break Kova's "youngest ever" records at Dinamo (Kova had a broken leg at 17 that set him back). Alen infamously went to Barcelona at 16 for 1m euros with Dani Olmo going the other way.

I would love to know what Kova actually thought of Alen (Croatian Messi) and what he thinks of James McAtee (English Messi - so christened at 11). I hope he is giving James some good advice.

He's had an excellent start to the season, but he pretty poor yesterday (he wasn't the only one!)

Like thise horrible tackles against Arsenal last season, I really didn’t like that tackle yesterday. I think a booking was about right but I wouldn’t have complained at all had he been sent off.
He was lucky, could have been easily a red, bad and unnecessary tackle.

When I saw the team news I assumed he was going to be Captain with the kids against Watford (Tuesday SkySports+). It would make sense and make sure of a victory. It looks like he is now the official backup for Rodri so I'm not sure you are going to see both of them playing together, today proved the point. I feel Josko has recently done a lot of that left field midfield role that Kova does.

Kovacic: A little frantic as he tried to keep his foot on the ball and the game. No lack of effort but the killer ball wasn't there. 6

Mateo Kovacic - A classy performance with the ball at his feet, completing nearly every pass he attempted, but didn't exert the level of control City needed when the pressure was on.6

Mateo Kovacic :
While he has proven he can play in a deeper-lying midfield role, the Croatian didn't have his best day and at times his midfield partners were overrun.6

Poor, kept running into trouble.
I think he’s bang average. We are nowhere near as good when we are relying on him. IMHO he doesn’t get near any of our starting elevens for the best part of the last 10 years. He’s not outstanding at anything

I agree with this. I was totally underwhelmed by the signing at the time and he's not done anything in his time here to suggest he's anything like a top class #6. He's fine if Rodri can hold his hand, but put him at the base of the midfield and he's absolutely clueless, both in and out of possession.

If he keeps tackling as awkwardly as against Brentford and Newcastle, one of these days the card is not going to be yellow. Not a dirty player but can find himself on the wrong side of his man.

Kova/Gundo/Rico midfield just didn’t work well at all. I think Kova was ok, but really bad performances by Rico and Gundo made it hard to get any control of the midfield. It shows how huge a miss Rodri is going to be. We win that game 2-1 or 3-1 if Rodders plays
