This thread is another example of people hastily pointing the finger at one or two players in particular instead of just giving it ten seconds and doing something else with their energy.

Kovacic was brilliant in his first handful of games and we were all in agreement that he was a worthy replacement for Gundogan, even if he wasn't expected to hit Gundo's heights for a bit yet.

Then he got injured, had a bit of a mare against Arsenal on an off day for the whole team, and has been injured again, playing the equivalent of one half of football in our last four games.

But for some reason he's getting more blame than anyone else, except for maybe Nunes and Gvardiol - two more lads who've only just arrived and are bedding in. This fanbase really doesn't add up sometimes.

In PL games Kovacic has started this season we're P7 W5 D0 L2. In PL games we've started with Kovacic and Rodri next to each other we've got a 100% record. It's obvious what makes us play our best football.
Too small a sample size to use the word obviously. Obviously.

He is kinda pointless in attempting him as an 8.

He cant shoot or offer any creativity in the final 3rd.

He is best used as a Rodri sub, paired next to a Bernie/Nunes who can push up.

Very good player

Started off well, never been quite up to speed since his back injury at in the first international break and picked up more since.

Get him back to full fitness and used to playing with us and he will be an asset to our team.

No idea why people are righting him off, he is top class just needs to get some games under his belt. Will need to chip in with some goals though even if he isn't known for it but hopefully that improves under Pep.

What does kovacic do??! Has no end product in the final 3rd, and defensively doesn’t seem to offer anything… can pass sideways yes and dribble occasionally well but we already have one passenger in the squad being grealish, can’t have 2. Enlighten me what am I missing I have never seen the hype in this guy.

Absolutely unbelievable at passing sideways 5 yards

I thought he did alright today. Saved our asses towards the end when he cleared that ball in the box. Made a few good runs forward, with some smart passing. He is still way off his beginning-of-the-season form, but I have a feeling some on here already made him a scapegoat, regardless of his performances. Decent today, IMO.

Thought he was good. Steady away but that's alright in his position. I thought he picked out some nice passes to get things going forward as well.

I still think he's a good player and will get better if he stays fit.

Not convinced, but saw a poster quoting the winning stats with and Rodri in the side. Interesting.
That was me.

6 wins out of 6 when both started the game and a further win when Kova came off the bench after 20 minutes against Burnley.

Sure, we know Rodders is absolutely world class and it's no coincidence we lost all 4 he didn't play, but we also failed to beat Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs reserves when he did play and Kova didn't.

They complement each other well and provide good balance to our game.

It’s hard to argue that we currently look better when he is next to Rodri. I have always thought Kovacic was a good player, not a great player. I haven’t changed my mind based on what we have seen so far. He was bought because of the price he was available for and I think he will do ok but won’t be ripping up trees week in week out.

He's a decent player but not starting quality. He was hardly viewed as starting quality at Chelsea.

I just think he doesn't cover enough ground. Looked to be running in mud before Luton's goal.

Don't really know what people see when they watch football at times but he was important for us today. Really good at breaking the lines and progressing the ball from deep which is great when foden is picking up those spaces centrally. By no means a perfect performance but still offers a lot and with time and hopefully a run of games we can see his early season form and more

he was just bit casual on ball today knowing the yard dogs would be bitting

game time should improve that
