Can't defend and offers nothing in attack, exactly like Walker at the moment.

Thought he started the season really well. Last couple of games though have shown a lot of his weaknesses.
He’s just a really tidy player, neat and tidy. But that’s not always enough.

Others may disagree with this but for me he is not a player that should play every min of every game. Put a fit Kev in the positions he finds himself in and Haaland would be on about 20 goals already this year!

Superb squad player who has plenty of time to learn - then he will become even better.

WTF ? How many years Pep should waste on this kid ?

Too small to be a top level football player.

I honestly don’t understand the hype of some people here. What exactly is his strength? I am serious.

The criticism is good. He has gone from a young kid full of fight and energy and being solid to someone who plays regularly and therefore is held to higher standards.

If he is in space in the middle he has to start doing a bit more than short passes. In the final third he has to step up and make things happen and as a defender he has to do his job a lot better.

The caveat to some of the criticism is that when Stones played the hybrid role he passed and moved. Nothing complicated. It was about providing an overload in the middle and for others to have space. Rico is no different, he is in there to give space to others.

If people want to blame him for their first goal, watch how easily Kulusevski sells Gundo to get into that space. Sad to say but Gundo cannot play as a 6 with his lack of mobility.

Hes literally the same height as Phil

Edit

And some player called Messi

Yes I understand, but he lacks composure with the ball - Messi and Phil have..

His first touch is unconvincing and always plays on my nerves..

You are never sure he looses it or keeps it or what the fuck is he going to do...

Add to this him being a liability as a RB...

Compared to him, Zinchenko played like Paolo Maldini...
Same age BTW, in 17/18 Zinchenko was 19-20 years old and played waaaaay better.

Complete waste of time. Get him the hell out FFS.

And yet Pep raves about his ability and trusts him.

I suppose someone should tell Pep that some shitkicker from an Internet forum has a bit of advice for him on coaching.

I think if we had options he'd be pulled from the lineup for a spell, played a lot of football for a young lad so a dip is natural and expected. pep is known for taking kids out when necessary to refocus them, did it with phil a lot, as soon as walker is back I suspect we'll see that and give him a chance for him to rest, renergise and find that extra bit of sharpness and determination whilst still contributing regularly from the bench.

Lot of defensive basics still for him to grasp, he's got to get smarter with his positioning quickly.

Pep was playing Mendy for 5 years until the British police helped us and jailed that piece of shit :D

So sometimes even Pep is wrong..

He’s not a right back. He’s utterly horrific against teams with a bit of quality that break with pace.

Either play him in midfield or not at all.

That i agree with

He's a very good young player, just not a right back

If fit, I'd start playing Akanji at right back if it's between him or Rico. Akanji is deceptively quick and can do a job there.

I think he’s got a very good right back in him. But at his age if he’s at right back, just let him play right back and ask Stones to revert to his roll.
He looks poor defensively because he’s not set in position. Just my opinion.

He’s not a right back, and he’s much, much better in midfield.

But some of the positions he’s being asked to take up while he’s playing right back aren’t making it any easier for him when he has to do some defending.
