Can't help but like him even if he does miss some chances, I think it's down to his work rate, either way hope he continues to get game time.

You can tell people have a ridiculously distorted view of Jesus when after the match people seriously refer to it as "a sitter".
This is becoming a pet peeve of mine. The amount of times he has a difficult chance that gets referred to as a sitter makes me think people haven't kicked a ball in their lives. Sometimes he really ought to be doing more, but sometimes he could miss a volley with his weaker foot from behind him and he'd get pelters for it. It drowns out all the far more valid criticisms of his finishing issues.

The other thing is that people always notice the misses, but they never notice the movement and plays he makes to get the chance in the first place. Another player may have scored it, but that same player may never have had the chance to in the first place.

The fact that I've seen Gabby scored some great difficult goals tells me he is a great finisher who is maybe not getting the service he's used to and/or low on confidence.

In my eyes, you don't get rid of strikers with a dip in form, because you know they can bring the goals as he has years of evidence on his quality.

The other aspects of his game are also superb, but I agree that Pep should maybe tell Gabby to try and get in the box more to score, even though his dropping in midfield is a strong part of his game, a balance is needed so he gets more chances to build confidence imo.

I thought this goalscorer stats table from the BBC was interesting. If you compare Jesus and Foden the stats for Goals per 90, Goal Conversion and Shot accuracy are very similar. I know Jesus is a more conventional centre forward and so maybe more is expected but my take from this is that he is not as bad as some posters think. It is really only Gundo that is way in front of Jesus.

This is a pretty small sample to judge from.

The trouble with Gabby is that he's simply not clinical enough - sometimes/often he's given a pass on a plate which he'll fail to even put on target.

Gabby simply is not, at present, a top-top striker; he's OK and is a good backup striker based on previous performances. If Gabby is content with the backup striker role, I'd love to see him remain in our side.

We're about to lose Aguero - and we would be best served if we can replace El Kun with another world class, top striker - I'm hoping that we sign Haaland.

Should we fail to sign a top striker, Gabby taking over for Aguero is a big drop off in ability at the striker position.

The chart covers every game this season - not sure how it would be possible to get a bigger sample size?
I agree that Jesus should score more but we need to value how well he fits into our system. I am not sure whether Haaland could fit in without quite a few changes to accommodate him.

It could be that we would be a better team with Haaland even if that meant reducing the effectiveness of other players. However I could easily see Pep not buying a star striker and instead bringing in more attacking midfielders/wingers and the team evolving to a state where no traditional goal scoring centre forwards are utilised. We are pretty much there already and there are some EDS lads like McAtee and Palmer who could potentially grow into those attacking roles.

Regardless of whether Aguero or Haaland or whoever is a better striker I don't think we are a better team necessarily with them instead of Jesus.
Aguero, in his prime, scores both of those chances 9/10, that Jesus had last night.

Add Haaland instead of him and we’re a better side, for sure.

I think he’s a decent number 2 but when he’s playing, out of all of our positions, centre forward is one of the weakest.

That’s probably true, but do we score the goals against Real Madrid last season or the two where we pressed Alisson into turning over the ball at Anfield the other week if Agüero plays ahead of Jesus?

They’re both exceptional at different things. We score different types of goals when they play, but we tend to score a pretty similar amount in total as a team regardless. Not a bad situation to be in

lol compare his mins per goal with the 2 other strikers - aguero and delap, and you'll see where the problem is.

also, we're 100% a better side with aguero/haaland, don't kid yourselves.

Also, check his stats in the *league* this season - then his mins per goal go up to 293.

293 minutes per goal in the league.
