Excellent cameo last night and he had a big impact on the game. Love his energy, intensity and work off the ball and whilst he will never be as prolific as Sergio he still has a decent scoring record at City.

I think the reason people are noticing he shows up for big matches is because in big matches team tend to leave more space behind, giving him more space to attack.

When we attack teams that park the bus we tend to struggle to score (obviously as that’s the point) and the fan mentality in these situations use to be “Well the striker has to bail us out like Aguero would” and Jesus isn’t that kind of player.

The shift to F9 has changed that mentality. Now Pep should just play Jesus as the 9 all the time even against a parked bus because the teams mentality has shifted for those situations.

1) If the opposition is parking the bus we now know the 9 can’t be the focal point, everybody has to pitch in, so Jesus has less pressure and can play.

2) Against the top teams their will be space for Jesus and he will score.

Disagree with him being needed to slot back into the false nine role. What Pep’s doing with him now is perfect. He’s put in 11 goal contributions in 860 minutes which is a goal contribution every 78 minutes. That’s world class. Keep him at RW when Mahrez has a bit of a dip in form and when he needs a rest and then sprinkle in starts / subs for the left and central here and there. A happy Gabby and confident Gabby is up there with one of the best wingers in football.

Obviously his defensive work rate and physicality wide is unparalleled. Let’s not tamper with a good thing to appease the form of other players IMO.

He was signed as a pure striker and goalscorer and his early displays were very promising in that respect,
Safe to say he isn’t that guy anymore. His finishing is actually pretty bad.
But a grafter who works his balls off, never moans and seems to be really popular around the place with his teammates.

It was nice to see him actually hitting a few shots. Still not what he once was there but at least he has the confidence to try, which is telling for this guy.
