9 more wins from 11 games

I don't think we need more than mid-80's points. 87 would definitely win it in my view, and 85/86 might.

In saying this, I do expect Chelsea to drop points obviously. But that said in their 2005/6 title-winning season, I note they finished with a winning streak of 9 consecutive wins so you could not rule it out and if they do manage that, they will be champions again I am sure. I am not expecting it.

2005/6 was a completely different and much superior side. They had Drogba at his peak ffs and Robben and others parading around. Last time they won it in 2008/9, they lost 2 of their last 9.

I'd like to compare the run-ins for the last 5 seasons to see how teams finish the league. I think comparing the Chelsea team now to 05/06 isn't as worthwhile as comparing the last 3 seasons to now as the teams are significantly different (even with Mourinho back).

The other option would be to look at Pellegrini/Mourinho and how they usually cope with their run in's and make an average of how many points the usually get.

MP/Maureen comparison completely pointless unless you want to compare MP's single season at Madrid to an average of Jose's 3 imo.

Not necessarily pointless if you consider average amount of points gained in final 10 games of the season as opposed to the previous 28... Even with a significantly worse team, the trend in finishing/starting the season strong should be similar for Pellegrini at Villereal/Madrid/Malaga even if there is a massive difference in points gained.

It makes sense in my head anyway...

No that's fair enough if you're comparing it to season averages instead of comparing points total of Real/Inter/Chelsea to Malaga/Villarreal, I just read it differently.

Not sure I agree.

In the final run in, how you handle the pressure is massively important and that's one of Maureen's strengths. Just looking at Chelsea in the last few seasons is not a sensible comparison imho.

But anyway,

CHELSEA
2012/13 = 7 wins, 1 draw, 22 points
2011/12 = 6 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat, 19 points
2010/11 = 6 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat, 19 points
2009/10 = 7 wins, 0 draws, 1 defeat, 21 points

So who knows. If they get say 20 points (average of the above) this season and finish on 86, then 86 would be enough for us.

Comparing stats to previous seasons in general doesn't really give you any indication into what might happen.

In football so much can change in the space of a weekend, before last weekend you would almost guarantee they would win at Villa, while a lot of us were worrying about going to Hull after the Barca game, but it all turned out totally different to what we would have thought.

For what its worth I can see Arsenal getting something on Saturday because they HAVE to, otherwise their title challenge it completely over.

You'd imagine we would beat Fulham and Liverpool will beat Cardiff but again its two teams fighting for their lives so it won't be straight forward.

I agree mate. You can look at trends and things like that though. If a teams gets 19, 20, 21 points from 8 games all the time, you can say it would be unlikely for them to get 16 or 24 this time. Unlikely, but not impossible though.

It will be helpful if Arsenal can take points off Chelsea at the weekend, but not essential. I see Liverpool beating Chelsea at Anfield later on personally.
