I'd agree on the charging more to actually get people to attend the cheaper event.There are 2 events, one at Mayfield Depot and the other, more expensive dinner, at the Legends Suite. So it's not the same event and the 300 corporates can have their sit down lunch without affecting the Friday night do.
Mayfield Depot can only accommodate 2000 and there's probably 10 times that number who've had a season card for 10 years or longer. So a ballot is the only fair way to do it.
The thing that we (City Matters) would have done differently is charge a bit more, say £10 or £15, with 2 or 3 free drinks. The problem with charging a fiver is that people are more likely to buy tickets if successful then not turn up. By making it more expensive up-front, you reduce that risk. But the club ignored us.
Personally I'd not go to either event. I've got my personal memories of that day which is more than enough, these sort of things always end up a bit plastic and twee for me but, I was aiming my comments at the posh do.
