A big "well done" to the Met

Ok as Tom appears to want to stay quiet, here is the alternative. The police obtain CCTV/phone footage of the offenders, they then build a database of their clothing, mannerisms, routes taken by them. This is then compiled to identify which area/esate the offenders come from. The police then conduct early morning patrols to find the mopeds and then conduct observations on them. When someone comes to the moped they are arrested and interviewed, make no comment and bailed pending further enquiries. Whilst this is happening their homes are searched, mobile phones seized, clothing seized. these are then sent to a specialist unit to see if the clothing matches footage, the phone has anthing incriminating on it etc etc. 5 months later ..................

Ok it needs a few more tweeks but I think it is a great idea, anyone else ?
Do you know how much manpower that would take, or how easy it is to hide a moped?

You could put a moped in a house easily. My daughters old boyfriend used to keep his in a downstairs toilet.

He was being sarcastic mate

Thank you, I didn't think it needed explaining.

Trev, I had been waiting for Toms reply and as he hadn't i thought of something someone might say.

On that note SWP, you are out of order with Tom = scote bit, Tom may be a softy liberal but that was not deserved.

Bit harsh really, I've just stated an opinion, fair enough you disagree, but no need for the insults. Normally a sure fire sign of losing an argument/debate.
There’s no losing this debate. I think the police’s action is reasonable and proportionate.

You worry about the bikers safety. I couldn’t give a fuck about that. They have the option of stopping to ensure they’re not injured. If they chose to ignore their safety then why the fuck should anyone care?

It’s richly deserved and I’m not overly bothered what you think to be quite blunt.

That's more even handed I'll take softy liberal if that's what comes with not wishing violence on people.

Clearly SWP is an angry angry man

That's male pattern baldness for you.

I think the point most of us are trying to say here Tom is that the softly softly approach has been tried for years and look where it's got us. Knock the fuckers off. Run them over. It's the only language they understand.

Police chase down joy riders all the time in high speed pursuits, frequently through built up areas.

I would say (and I would hesitate before sending most offenders to prison) that the current maximum sentence for dangerous driving (two years) is too low, especially for recidivists.
Forget recidivists what about repeat offenders?

Looks like this tactic like many others will be swept under the carpet, the copper in question could even be dismissed, a bit of strange reporting from the BBC to be honest, it's almost as though they see the moped rider as a victim so they made a minor injury sound more serious.

The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, was admitted to hospital with serious head injuries but later discharged.

And this was his rap sheet just for this crime.

The boy later pleaded guilty to five offences at the youth court, including theft, dangerous driving, and driving without a licence.
