Oh mate I'm on your side here, lost too many people to drunk drivers. There has to be a set of standards for deciding on a chase and arrest though.Police chase down joy riders all the time in high speed pursuits, frequently through built up areas.
I would say (and I would hesitate before sending most offenders to prison) that the current maximum sentence for dangerous driving (two years) is too low, especially for recidivists.
