from a friend over the pond
SoulSistas And SoulBruthas! A quick stop in the local shop yesterday for a look in the 25 Cent bin produced two really great records. Apparently the old 45's in the basement are becoming quite popular as they've slowly been increasing in cost. On one hand, it's great that folks are starting to re-visit these gems. On the other, it becomes a bit more difficult to score good records. Especially since we only have this one real record store. Sure there are a few thrift shops around, but the records in those places can seldom be brought back to life. At least the "kids" down at the shop are pretty much only interested in James Brown records, which not matter the condition are never in the 25 Cent bin, and tend to pass over gems like these two. Sometimes it just blows my mind that records this old, 40 years, and with a few pops and crackles can still sound pretty damn good. I hope you get down on them and ENJOY!!

Here's another follow up record from a fantastic group as well. The Intruders next single in 1968 after the monumental "Cowboys To Girls," and one of my all time favourite songs, on Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff's Gamble label was called, "(Love Is Like A) Baseball Game." I'm not sure if this single had any success as I never really knew of this tune before stumbling across it. Written by Gamble & Huff it's stuffed with Baseball metaphors galore as well as another superb horn and string arrangement. Those guys really knew how to do it right back then. The flip, "Friends No More" is about your best friend stealing your girl. That ain't cool!! More utterly great harmonies and strings.
