i think roberto has come on leaps and bounds with city this season, and it is fair to say he has totally won me over, if i have one concern it's still the total inability to look dangerous against our immediate rivals, if we analysed our games against the big guns, our lack of shots and goals is there for all to see.

if we can step it up at old trafford and stamford bridge we can win this league, i am certain.

maybe this was the reason he never could handle the Champions League with Inter, as long as he didnt loose that was good enough. Who knows? only time will tell with this one.

a valid point. We've yet to score in 3 games against Arsenal, 2 games against Spurs, and 2 home league games against United since Roberto took over.

And you're basing that opinion on last nights understrength team are you?

three players out of the team Mario whos not in the starting 11 at the moment, Kolarov whos not been his best yet which leaves Silva. Now you are not telling me that we are a one man side are you?

Balotelli would have played last night as he would have been perfect for Arsenal away (hatrick last match for gods sake), Kolarov is carrying an injury and has played most games when fully fit, his attacking away from home was missed big style (fully fit would have played), Silva dont even need to comment do I?

To the extent that we don't have another player like Silva we are a one-man team as far as linking defence and attack is concerned which is why we looked so punchless last night. Yaya's surging runs apart we don't really have too many options on the counter attack. Silva is so good at showing for the ball when the defensive players are in possession and then using it to prompt attacks. Last night Tevez was having to drop deep to do that job but of course that left us with nothing up front.

I am so pleased with the progress.
I also have no problem with the principle that everything is built on solid defence. History generally bears that out.
Last night though we got very lucky and even with a fair dose of luck we picked up 1 point.
With a defensive set up we still need to try have the possibilty to WIN if we get lucky.
That was almost completely missing last night. To increase our chance of getting one point rather than zero we sacrificed any chance of getting three.
I'm not knocking Mancini because there were a special set of circumstances but in general I don't want us going into many matches (even against Arsenal) with 1 point being the best possible outcome. A few tweaks here and there and we have a great style which can deliver convincing wins against lesser teams and solid draws (with occasional wins) against the Top 4. That will be a winning formula.

It's probably fair to question what we're going to do to start to play with these teams, rather than survive them. I agree with the thought process that it isn't imperative to beat these squads, draws are good, safe results and if you take care of business against everyone else the math will work out, but at some point we'll have to do more than try to nick one against one of these teams, and we've really struggled to do so. We thought we might have had a bit of a coming out party amongst the top sides with our win versus Liverpool, but man that one really turned out to be not as special as it seemed.

that said, I'm very much bewildered by people accusing City of negative football, particularly in last night's match. We played two strikers, albeit one of them Jo, and had the game absolutely taken to us. Balotelli wouldn't have made a lick of difference last night, to be honest, as he's going to be reliant upon service he was never going to get. Silva obviously would have helped, maybe Kolarov, but games against these top sides really make me worry about our midfield and whether it's an optimal setup to produce results. Aside from Milner, I find it hard to find fault with any particular player, but taken as a unit they do not seem to work well off each other, I fear the players themselves may all be too one dimensional.

I'm not that blinkered, however, from what i have witnessed of his attributes and talent, then i'd have to say he would have made a big difference to both our approach and system.

Not only does he bring individual skill,he also gets the best out of players around him and links the team like no one else on our books, exactly what we missed last night.Balo would also have provided much needed pace, subsequently, both would have given us an outlet and not limited us to the one dimensional system we had to adopt.
