We are thinking of spending a day in the peak district after the derby on the 27th before driving down to a holiday cottage in Rutland. I had thought of driving from Denton to Chatsworth House before taking in Bakewell for an hour or so. Never been before so any suggestions for better places to visit or things to do/see and routes to take very welcome.

Take in the Chatsworth Farm shop. Quality food but very expensive.
If you go to Bakewell buy some bread and feed the fish in the river. They are absolutely huge

Bakewell is a great shout.

There's a few good walks to do near by or the town is great if you just fancy a mooch. There's a couple of nice boozers serving good food, plenty of bakeries and an awesome fudge shop.

If you are in to your walking there's a route on the old railway about 5 min drive from Bakewell that goes over a viaduct at Monsal Head. There's a nice pub you can park at which has nice views over the old railway.

Chatsworth's good but on the way if the weather's decent take the minor road near Winnats Pass that drops down through Edale and then back into the Hope Valley, beautiful countryside.

Cromford (Derwent Valley is a world heritage site) if you're into industrial history. Walk along canal to the Leawood pump house (though it won't be in steam - 80 tons of water lifted from river to canal in one stroke).
Narrowoat trip too but not till the Saturday.

If you are doing Bakewell/ Chatsworth then keep going down the A6 to Matlock Baths. There's a cable car to the heights of Abraham which is good for a few hours.

Nice scotch shop in Bakewell called The Wee Dram. Also get a proper Bakewell Tart. 2 shops do it...Both claiming to be the original.

Chatsworth is very good.

Just before Matlock, in a small village called Rowsley, it has a nice old water mill you can go in.
