I have noticed this the last couple of weeks aswell

It happens when the server is overloaded and cache gets purged to put it simply. I made a thread on possible ways to alleviate this issue id like your views on it if you have a sec to post in it :)
its the "our servers, cause we just ddosed ourselves" thread
Think of it as 500 people all banging on your door at once and all asking for info of you, very quickly you would hold your hands up and say screw this im closed for business. Its called denial of service and usually used by malicious individuals to cripple websites and severs if they cant hurt them via other methods i.e. sqli vulnerabilities or out of date flash etc etc.
In this case our own users acted as the ddos tool via all the requests to see the tevez news threads.
