A Great Time To Visit Turkey

So I may have got post 44 wrong based on my only previous expedition to Turkish soil and that was quite awhile ago and also stereotyping without having previously experianced sufficient input to make an educated decision.

The resort of Icemelor is very attractive sat in a curved bay and nestled around 3kilometers from Marmaris offering the discerning traveller the best of both worlds. All the houses and bars look very new and the road network and pavements put ours and a lot of mainland Europe to shame. If I was draw comparison' I would say equally to Last America's and certainly not the shit hole impression force fed to me over the years. All the bars and restaurants service staff are nothing but friendly and ultra polite and the ambience is splendid.

Generally speaking when walking about you can get oined but a polite no thank you usually suffices and no different than Spain or Portugal. Prices are silly cheap and a pint of efes is around £2 and steak meal £8.

Marmaris is 40p from our hotel and beautiful Ismellor on the Dolmus is 25p but we walk it in half an hour to save on our carbon footprints. and carbs. ;)

Hotel very good and food superlative. Drinks strong and not tampered with. Entertainment dreadful so we go out every night after a few liveners. Hotel Julian forest suites is in a beautiful setting with peace and calm. 10 days all Inc £320 each jet 2 and for pennies. A big thumbs up from us so dip your toes and take that plunge.
Have you exchanged any money in the resort and if so what was the exchange rate compared to doing it back home?

We are getting 7.90 mate compared to 7.2 back home. Best to change the money at small travel agents and avoid the official beauros. Local pub we are in is currently offering 7.79 which is more than acceptable.

I go to Azerbaijan in November and plan on two nights in Istanbul on the way there.

Any tips welcome.

I’d like a Fenerbahce shirt for my collection. Istanbul looks a smashing city.

For Baku or Istanbul?

Baku is nothing like Istanbul in terms of beauty, infrastructure etc. - you should also be forewarned that while Azeris are Turks and predominantly Muslim they are also still fairly naive to democracy after the fall of the iron curtain. Many remnants of communist times remain, particularly in mentality but it is changing and there are many great things to enjoy - highly recommend local sturgeon, much tastier than you'll find elsewhere. I am curious what Europa League organizers will do to avert the local corruption that is rampant, last time I was there our driver was regularly stopped every km and effectively being hustled to give money to the police. Very strange but this was several years ago so perhaps it is better, just be aware of this sort of behavior. Turkey are the biggest economic partners with Azerbaijan so quite a bit Turkish products, markets, doner etc. Rug museum was very interesting as is the old city

Istanbul, for me, is a must visit for everyone - there isn't a city like it on the planet IMHO. If you're only there two nights, make sure you obviously go to the Grand Bazaar (Expect to spend a day minimum browsing things). I'm not really too keen on churches, mosques etc. but there are certainly those sites you can visit - I think I was most impressed by the parks, of which there are many. Gulhane park is really impressive. Sooo much to do but the food, wow - enjoy
