A Great Time To Visit Turkey

@worsleyweb

I'm in a place called Kalkan, which is a small town built around a harbour. There is no beach as such, so you can stay in the hotel or walk to the harbour and catch a free water taxi to a beach club. These are bars and a restaurant that are built into the rocks. For those who know Kalkan, Palm beach is our club of choice and offers spectacular views across the bay

Kalkan old town is a fabulous array of shops and very nice restaurants, with the majority having roof top terraces to take in the views. Trip Advisor awards may of these restaurants a 4.2 and above and the service is second to none

There is not one pushy trader and I've not witnessed any young ladies copping for unwanted attention

Worsley, you appreciate fine things. Honestly give this place a try. I'm certain you and Mrs Ww would love it

Cheers for thinking of me mate - I am going to try it year after next!

Just booked a trip with the family to Antalya, looking forward to it
I’m off to Antalya with the wife and kids in July. How did you enjoy your visit? I’m in a TUI 5 star all inclusive. Excellent reviews on trip advisor apart from people saying there are a lot of rude Russians?

We loved it, stayed at Club Med in Palmiye. I have friends who stayed at the Rixos Premium Belek and they couldn't recommend it enough either. It's true, there are a fair number of Russians both as local property owners and visiting tourists. We stayed at a Francophone resort so we were predominantly French, Suisse and some Beligian and sprinkled with Brits & Yanks. Antalya is scenic, or at least the surrounding area is - city wise it is nothing like Istanbul or Ankara. People are great and food is spectacular IMHO. I'd skip some of the tourist attractions if you are with kids, the Aquarium might seem a good option but I would avoid due to mediocre quality & unreasonable pricing. Definitely enjoy a cruise along the coast as it is fairly cheap and gives you a nice appreciation for the scenery & waterfalls.

I would make sure wherever you chose has good kids clubs (depending on your kids ages) - Club Med is stellar in this regard which means your kids enjoy themselves immensely and parents can indulge in time for themselves, sports etc.

My girlfriend and I went to the beach club for the first few years but then found that the public beach was great. Less than £4 for two beds and an umbrella and not especially crowded. You can amble off for coffee or lunch and your stuff won't be disturbed (obviously taking anything of value with you).

The added bonus, if you interested in that sort of thing, is that the giant turtles often venture into the swimming area so you can get a good look at them.

Yes. We've seen the turtles around d here a number of times
We're paying 50tlr (£7.50) entrance to the beach club for us both
As a matter of interest, which was your favourite restaurant here?
We ate at the Old Trading House last night and it was brilliant

That's good but quite expensive by local standards. It was affiliated to the hotel we stayed at which, from memory was called something like "The Excelsior" on the Kalomar road.

Cheapest was the Bougainville, a street restaurant on the upper limb where the main drag splits into 3. Great sizzling chicken but the menu is limited. Also cheap but really good is the Hunkar kebab restaurant which is up past the taxi rank, over the roundabout and on your left.

But our favourite, and middle to upper expense bracket is the Alternatif which is on the left of the main drag as you go downhill but before the road splits. It's above ground level. The steaks are to die for and the owner sometimes brings in home-made Turkish delight which is lovely.

For lunch, a salad at the Lighthouse is always a winner.
