Football coming home was the fact that euro 96 was being held in England, so it already has as the final is here.
It was the FA ramming it home that they were the first FA hence only called the FA in the Euro 96 literature you got with the tickets, something that vexes FIFA to this day. The FA had editorial or the song lyrics.

England may be playing a European Championship Final at 8pm on Sunday 11th July. It would be beneficial and sensible to give the country the day off the next day if England win, in the form of an extra Bank Holiday Monday.

When the government announces any extra public holiday (royal dying etc), who pays the employees wages for that day?
I mean it's very generous of a government to announce one, but not if the private business owner is the one paying the bill.
