Mancini has quite different ideas than Hughes.

Hughes was a vocal believer in Carrington and seemed to appreciate that it was great that so many of our players had been raised by the club. He always talked about the future of City and his great enthusiasm for the improvements.

It seems that the ex City youth boys are out of favour. Ireland, Nedum, Sweep, Richards no longer the first choice they once were. In my opinion, their performances have not been what they were under Hughes. Boyata has come from nowhere, but really is yet to prove himself.

Mancini is bringing in old war horses like Viera and replacements Johnson and attempted McDonald Matiaga for SWP, Ireland. Perhaps their loyalty to Hughes was too much. Mancini has recognized he needs his own people. Major changes indeed.

I hope its only temporary, but the wind seems to have gone out of our sails. Lets hope Cap'n Bob can get us back on course.

Talk was all it was IMO - Hughes didn't give a debut start to any Academy graduates, a few brief sub appearances for Weiss was all.

Mancini has given starts to Ibrahim, Weiss and Boyata plus a sub appearance for Cunningham.

Richards has been pretty much a regular starter for Mancini when fit and his form has been far better than under Hughes. Ireland and SWP have been off-form, Ireland all season regardless of who was the manager and SWP recently so they'll have to show that they're worth a regular starting place. I suspect Ned's problem is his poor distribution as far as Mancini is concerned as he prefers defenders to play the ball out from the back.

I had never even heard of Ibrahim or Boyata really until Mancini had them starting in the squad, they both showed good signs to me just need experience, thumbs up.

Richards and Ireland are back in the team - injuries permitting

Right, LancsBlue. I think that Hughes, eyeing very much the long term, dragged the club into the NewTopFour from the point of view of behind-the-scenes-facilities. And any manager who thinks his stay will have the mark of longevity, must view Carrington favourably.

But it is Mancini who has given near every player at or near the first team an opportunity, and Micah would be a first choice for Mancini when fit, and he has seen something in Boyata that tells me he thinks the lad is good for a dozen years in the EPL.

Mancini definitely doesn't have a magic wand but he is scouring every last playing resource for a winning blend.

Trouble is, games come in rapid succession, injuries and suspensions bugger up well-laid plans, and then the refs can undo all the good work on the training ground.

But, and it must be my sky-blue tinted specs, why does the team that started on Saturday not perform to the level everyone knows they are capable of!
