It's called free will.
And you certainly wouldn't claim that a religion such as Christianity,which has been around for a mere 2,000 years out of the 250,000 that man has been around is anything other than a Johnny-Come-Lately to the ecumenical party.
 
The real Ancient knowledge has near enough been eradicated with only a tiny tiny few Shamons that hold the said knowledge still alive today, Credo being one of them. Christianity is a mere fledgling at 2000 years old compared to the 'real' knowledge.
