Academy Pathway to the First Team

We don’t give those same chances enough though when the opportunity comes... For example, when we have our first team strikers injured we won’t even put our EDS striker on the bench. A guy who is raw for sure, but who has the physicality to play now, has scored a lot of goals for the EDS, scored on his senior debut and hit the bar with a header from a cross on his PL debut. We’ll instead put 3 centre backs on a 7 man bench and wonder why we don’t have anyone to try and grab a goal when we’ve wasted 20 odd shots on goal. Delap seems to have suffered because Pep chased the game against Leicester, left Rodri on his own as a 6 and we got stuffed. That wasn’t Delap’s fault but he hasn’t been seen since. He’d at least be on the bench for those other teams as an only fit striker. He should be on our bench tomorrow if Aguero is out.

Then there’s dead rubber games like Marseille. What do we learn playing Mahrez on the right? We could play Cole Palmer for an hour, because currently our attack is so disfunctional that we should try something different when we can. Or in that game, how about bringing any of the 4 EDS players that were on the bench on when we’re winning. If we’re not going to play them they should’ve played against Tranmere in the Pizza cup to get experience of playing against seasoned pros.

We have done better recently compared to a few years ago but there’s still big room for improvement.
There is some room for improvement, I would agree, and we really have some gems but, as you rightly point out, we have improved a little. I believe that there will be big changes over the next few years as the talent is too big to ignore: Palmer, McAtee, Hodge, Dionkou and others are very, very gifted.

In my eyes, a ridiculous post. Foden will rack up at least thirty appearances this season. He has played 16 times and 1044 minutes so far this year. Pep continually praises him publically and has given him progressively more minutes each season. The clamour for him to be given a bigger role is because he has developed in the way he has, as well as the obvious affinity we have for a local, academy player. Your anger 'Pep can do no wrong crew' is clouding your judgement, in my view, and I have never seen him 'hauled off' for losing a couple of balls.
Spot-on. Why are some City fans so keen to believe fake narratives in the media? This season Foden has 16 appearances the fourth highest of any outfield player (three behind Rodri and Sterling with 19). He has had 87 first team appearances at the age of 20 (87 more than Paul Scholes at that age)
Phil has won 2 Premier Leagues, one FA Cup, three League Cups (Man of the match in the last final), two Community Shields (another Man of the Match) and the Under 17 World Cup with England. I believe he is the most successful 20-year-old in World Football (Mbappe is 21). Pep became the Manager at Barcelona because he was a genius at developing young players with their B team.

He plays out wide basically to graft since we’ve become draw specialist. He’ll never make a top class left sided attacker so why continually play him there? He praises everyone in public and generally contradicts himself in the media these days.

What about the other kids not getting game time in dead runners? 30 appearances for Foden is not much when about 8 have already come in 2nd string games.

30 appearances for a 20 year old in a top-class team is a lot. He is worth it, of course, and I suspect it will be nearer to 40 given his 16 appearances already. I agree that some of the others could have been used in the dead rubbers but this is a strange old season, with no pre-season, so I can understand the need to play players into form. Let's face it, if we were winning, nobody would have an issue with what Pep is doing.

Not much hope when kids didn't get minutes even in dead rubber in CL.

They way fee first teamers are playing kids won't do much worse than them.

And it's surprising that people are blaming Delap for Leicester defeat
