Perhaps of we stay in the EU then the age of consent can be standardised for all EU countries - perhaps at 13 like Germany and Italy or 15 like Italy.
It seems odd that a man can be an evil criminal in England when 22 miles away in France he would be a law abiding citizen.
This is exactly what I'm thinking. It's actually ridiculous that he's being labelled as a vile and disgusting human being about something that is morally ambigious and differs between different countries. People have been conditioned under the pretense that the law is a guide to moral and legal excellence when it clearly isn't.

Seems odd that 15 yr old people in Germany, Italy and France are mature enough to consent to sex but British ones are not.

Im trying to be factual and not put spin on an already messed up story. He isn't a paedophile, he did not engage in sexual activity with a prepubescent child. He's a fucking idiot, but to put him in the same category as people who rape 5 year olds isnt fair in my opinion

Unless she hadn't gone through puberty he's not technically a paedophile. It's leaning towards being pedantic but that is the actual definition.
It's horrible what he's done and you can say he's a nonce, but not that he's a paedophile.

When i was 19 i could of ended up in a similar situation. Was in Birmingham, cracking on to some girl. Found out of her mates that she was actually 15, used a fake id to get in the club. I was minutes away from going back to the hotel, scary thought

This is sickening what Johnson did and his career should be last thing anyone worry about. Minors are minors and he knew better as well as the fact he has an attractive girlfriend he is a millionaire footballer with access to just about the best trim the world has to offer. What a dummy he is and he should suffer the full consequences of being a pedophile.
It's probably linked with young girls being immediately sexualised by society as soon as they begin menstruating (so 10-13) - which is also why I think the response to this is quite telling in how many older people, both men and women, view young girls. I can't for the life of me imagine that people would be defending Adam Johnson such as they are if the victim were a 15-year-old boy, which is rooted as much in homophobia as it is in misogyny.Always think it is odd the the schoolgirl fantasy image is socially acceptable. Grown women actually go out dressed as School girls on hen dos etc.
Whenever cases make the front pages in which the victim is a young boy, they are rightly protected and their attackers are rarely seen as poor, hard-done-to, honest men who were lured in by some sinister magic. But the narrative in cases such as this one, where the victim is a young girl, you see people piping up, "How would Adam know she was 15?" more often than is comfortable - as people have already implied in this thread, "poor old Adam Johnson was just too weak to stop himself, I've been in that situation before".
It's creepy as fuck, to be honest.
