Adam Johnson

I like the guy, he is looking to be a great prospect. But in the end the lack of pace will make or break it for this guy I think. Yes I know there has been great wingers without speed, but times are different now. Hope I'm wrong though.

I can't see a problem with his pace as he seems able to get away from defenders a lot of the time, it's his crossing that needs to improve but there's plenty of time for that to happen.

I dont have a problem with his pace, do you know why?? BECAUSE HE'S LIGHTNING!!!

He's very quick, didn't do much against chelsea, but the games before that he looked quicker than shauny.

Bloody hell, he's like shit off a shovel.

And unlike any winger we've had since Peter Barnes, actually keeps the ball under control at the same time.

He has the right mix of technique and attitude to go very far indeed.

Just needs to fill out a little more.

change of direction = like an indecisive fly
change of pace = like a startled whippet
close control = oh yeah

he's a glimpse of the future. perfect for working in the tight areas. speed merchants who rely on pace rather than close control need the pitch to be blown wide open, which usually means big gaps amongst your own team. IMO that's how you concede three at home to burnley. having the ability to work in tight areas means you can keep a nice shape. for me it's the accuracy on the final ball that he should work on..

because his set plays are already decent,
because he's obviously got great vision,
because he's adjusting to quicker, more organised and crafty defenders, because he's not quite got that wiry strength in his legs yet,
I think the signs are that it will come.

I would love to see him cut into the box and do his stuff. Thats where s'times greater damage is done. Just like the little russian rocket (arshavin).
A good measure of a great winger is not how much he mesmerized the opponents and delivery but the # of goals he score. No?

Good player going off his performances so far. Can maybe go missing sometimes but hes young and adapting so i wouldnt count that as a problem. Only thing i dont really like is hes sooo one footed, like to see players using both feet but that point can be directed at most of the players in the prem.

1 footed? I have to disagree mate. Although his stronger foot is his left, he is by no means 1 footed. Look at his goals scored, around 40% this season have come from his right foot

is it just me or does anyone else think he lacks the real pace to be a world class winger?

he has all the skill and tricks but sometimes just looks a bit pedestrian and Rick Holden like!!

he also looks a tad unfit and seems to tire soon after half time - maybe he will take time to adjust to the pace of the premiership?

btw I'm not having a go at him and really like him - just a few honest observations

Are you for real? What kind of a thread is that?

yeah, he's got two feet, no doubt in my mind. the thing is he has cut back onto his left more often in the last few games.....

according to a coaching article in one of the papers, the managers are really keen on the inswinging cross (i.e. where the winger cuts back onto his wrong foot and curls it in towards the far post), they think they are a nightmare to defend.

pace...why does it always have to be about pace? what about football!!!!

This lad is absoulutle quality. Seen him a couple of times for Boro and his perfomances for us have convinced me - he'll be an England regular in 18 months. Mark my words.

Before Johnson came on, a vigilant & 'hands on' Mancini gave him instructions to cut into the box and curled or place the ball IN. Yes I can read lips. Particulary to a transfixed goalie like Gordon, whose goaltending style is similar to Given, who was anticipating a header from a cross. No?
