Admitting I’m an Alcoholic

Human beings are pleasure seekers and if folk enjoy doing something they go back for more hence people become addicted to something without realising it.
Once people realise they are addicted they make excuses for carrying on with their addiction because they enjoy it - quite often more than they enjoy anything else in life.
You can only truly beat addictions if you really want to beat them. Half hearted attempts don’t work. Hope you can beat yours but you’ve got to really want to do it and don’t be afraid of asking for help if you need it. Beating an addiction isn’t easy but it is possible and you can move on. Good luck.

Hope you get there @BLUEYESTU .

I have always drank, but now do the mon -friday fast. Doesn't bother me , but i do look forward to Friday.

I cant remember not having at least 3 pints before watching City for the last 40 years.

One day at a time Blue.

I drink every day but not to getting pissed proportions. I’d be interested to know what sort of consumption level is generally classed as alcoholic dependency.

Me too. I have to work hard not to drink 5 times a week but I can easily stop after 2-3 glasses of wine in an evening.

After talking to family, my doctor and Occupational Health at work I have finally accepted that I am an alcoholic. It’s been a long time coming; my wife was telling me last year before we split and I didn’t want to hear it. But over the past few weeks things really got out of control and I made the decision to ask for help.
There’s a long and difficult road ahead to be sure and trying to get sober in lockdown is going to be hard.
Are there any recovering alcoholics on here who can offer any advice on getting through this please?

Good luck. You have made the brave first step. One day at a time.

Best of luck mate. There’s probably a few on here in a similar position but they’ve not yet come to terms with admitting it. You’re ahead of all those in denial and that’s definitely a start.

Wishing you all the best on your journey, you already know you are a strong person by admitting you have a problem, small steps, you’ll get there.
