adserverplus

Not had it myself. I use adblock plus on firefox to stop these things annoying me and have Malwarebytes pro running in the background alongside Microsoft Security Essentials. From what I can gather the best way to start trying to remove it is by downloading the free version of Malwarebytes at http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ . Do a full scan and it should get rid of this crap. Have a look in your task manager (ctrl+alt+del) before running it, and end any processes associated with adserver.com. Might also be worth getting hold of a free spyware removal program as well. Superantispyware does the job. There's also a small free program called 'hijack this', which will show any browser helper objects (BHO's) which may be on your machine. Generally, but not always, these things are unnecessary and can be gotten rid of.

couldn't download malwarebytes, kept stopping the download at %26, got superantispyware and ran a full scan, it found nothing.

Hmmm. Evidently this virus has been known to prevent the downloading or installation of malware removal programs. I just downloaded Malwarebytes no problem,, so it's not a problem at their end. Try again, but when asked where to save it, change the name of the download to something like abc.exe. Maybe save it to a pen drive. Boot up in 'safe mode with networking' (you may need to update the database of the program) and install it and run a scan. If you cannot get Malwarebytes to download, try TDSS killer from this page: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-r ... tdsskiller . Read the guide and instructions on the page before downloading (basically you'll need to rename the file before running it; iexplore.exe will do. When it starts click on 'change parameters', and then check the box for 'Detect TDLFS file system'). There are ways of manually removing this thing, but they are quite involved, and best not attempted other than as a last resort, and only then if you really know what you're doing. Good luck.

managed to download antimalware after changing the name, ran it, it picked up nothing, getting worried now, I am getting pop ups off bluemoon and earlier after listening to an online radio station when I closed the window it continued to play, had to restart to get rid of it.

Run this as admin, rename it if need be.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/

How's that for timing! I just edited my previous post as you were posting. I'm surprised Malwarebytes found nothing. Try TDSS killer as instructed. Rather than repeating all the instructions here, have a look at the following webpage for decent advice on getting rid of this thing: http://malwaretips.com/blogs/ad-adserve ... pup-virus/ . It essentially details pretty much what I've said here, but will be easier to follow. I'd be surprised if at least one of those programs can't kill this thing.

thanks mate, but its for windows 7? I`m running 8.
I`m running spyhunter 4 and it seems to be picking things up, I thing, I`m not too clever with PC`s

I don't trust these tools that much.

Spyware search and destroy + ad-aware are also both decent bho removers.

NOD32 has a good scanner and removal tool in it's anti-virus package.

One thing I would do before running any of these programs is 1) End any process that might be associated with Adserver. Presume Win8 is the same as previous versions, so press ctrl, alt and del simultaneously. Select 'Task manager', have a look at processes running on the computer. If there is one listed as ad.adserverplus.com or similar, then highlight it and click on 'end process' button.
2) Exit your browser. 3) Run program.
Not familiar with Spyhunter, so don't know about its efficacy.

spyhunter found 76 possible problems but wanted $29 to remove them

Look, don't p*ss about with programs that want money to clean your machine. The programs I and TCIB have recommended will sort it out for free. Just follow the instructions of how to run Malwarebytes and TDSS killer, and you'll be fine. Remember the bit about killing processes and exiting your browser before you run them and you should be fine. This particular piece of malware is a pain in the arse, but it's not that hard to get rid of. And believe me, you need to get rid of it. It will eventually lead to a slowed up PC or blue screen crashes. Look at the link I provided to the webpage that tells you how to get rid of this sh*t. Follow it religiously. There is loads of stuff out there that will claim to get rid of this or that, but the programs we are recommending will do the job far better than any paid for program. You have to sort this thing out old boy!

By the way, if you are really struggling, do the ctrl+alt+del thing and then tell us what is running on your machine under the processes tab. If we need to go through this thing step by step I'm happy to do it. Just don't think that you need to do a complete reinstall or anything daft like that. We all started somewhere, and I, for one, won't see 50 again! Didn't have a PC 'til I was 44. You just learn shit when you can't afford to pay some bugger to fix things for you! This is fixable, no panic.

thanks ian, ctrl alt del shows only internet explorer and Skype as running, I have malwarebytes and have run a scan, will try it again

Ok JULES, do you mind if i have a look at it mate ?

Can you install teamviewer and pm me the 9 digit code and 4 digit pass please.

http://download.teamviewer.com/download ... tup_en.exe

I do help a fair few users here via remote service and i only took a few bank details so you will be safe...ish :p

Edit:: Missed Ian's offer of help, but yeah let one of us have a look if you don't mind as it may be a messy manual job.
