Hi guys im going to the derby in two weeks but i am not travelling the same way i usually do for city games.Normally i fly into manchester for our games but for this one im flying to birmingham as my original flight to manchester was set for 12 o clock leaving so i obviously wouldnt make it in time!!Anyway i was wondering if anyone could tell me if the train from birmingham is beside the airport and if they come regularly and if it makes a difference to order my train ticket online or just get it there and then as my last 5 visits to manchester via plane have all been delayed.

Cheers for any advice given blues.

Birmingham airport does have a station (Birmingham international) and there are direct trains to Manchester Piccadilly or some with just a single change

There are two trains which come every hour mate..
1. Takes 2hours with no change costs around 15-20pounds
2. Takes 1hr and 50 mins costs around 15-30

Id say get it offline as its cheaper best place to go is www.thetrainline.com.
They both go to Manchester Piccadilly and leaves from Birmingham international.

What time you landing?

arriving at birmingham airport at 7.30 and only geetting a one way ticket as im flying from manchester home..

Well there's trains at 7:40am/8:09am/8:38am
costing between 10-15quid. You will have to have to sit on a train for a while though.

Another choice is National express im sure a few go from Brum int.

Good luck bud!

Book via Virgin Trains website. They don't charge a booking fee like thetrainline.

Book in advance.

1. It will be cheaper.
2. It will save you time at the Station.

Times here if the link works.

One more question actually,is there much difference between the prices of a ticket when u walk uo to the station compared to buying online??

-- Sun Apr 04, 2010 7:13 pm --

ok cheers boys, appreciate all the effort.

In fact, if you're worried about being delayed do this:

Buy your single from Birmingham New Street for either 09.31/09.57 (Both £15).

This covers you if your flight is delayed.

If you're on time at 07.30, get a single from Birm Airport to Birm New St, every 15/20 mins (£2.30).

Go in Wetherspoons near the station and have a full breakfast with a couple of pints. Couple of cans on the train, job's a good 'un.

get on the 1st train you see to Manchester Piccadilly. If an inspector asks for your ticket bang on in a foreign language about buying one off him/her whilst smiling and waving your hands about.
Chances are you won't see one so just amble off at Manc and breeze through the station. If you get stopped tell em you got on at Stockport

Birmingham International station is actually located at the NEC (National Exhibition Centre) which is a short distance from the airport. At one time there was a monorail which ran between the two, but to the best of my knowledge this is no longer in operation and instead a shuttle bus connects the two points. The journey takes approx 5 minutes and is free.
