Aguero contract situation

That's a complete straw man.

The choice is this - Pay a 34 year old Aguero who's not been fit for 7 months 250k a week.

Or offer Aguero a reduced wage and go spend the rest of the money on Haaland or some other striker who is fit enough to play.
Well yeah. I love Sergio but he's in a different phase of his career now (whether or not certain people want to admit it). If he comes back next year it has to be at a wage that allows us to bring in Haaland or someone else, and he has to accept a role in which he's going to start the majority of games on the bench. Based on his amateur PR agent it doesn't seem like he's willing to do either quite yet.

I have a funny feeling that when he returns from self-isolation we will see the Aguero we are all used to seeing.

Think how stupid this line is. Presumably if it was up to you we'd still be paying Jack Rodwell?

It's not a punishment it's a reality check. You don't earn the same amount at 34 after 12 months of constant injuries as you do as a 29 year old coming off your best season at the club.
Seperate age from injury , if it was just his age then it would be ok to pay him what he wants ?

You cant punish a player for being injured

Anyway , sergio is not a moments trouble , he respects the management and the management respects him

The situation will be sorted to everyones benefit

Or we can kick him because of what a journo says, well placed or not
Nobody wants Sergio to leave under a cloud but common sense has to play a part here.

He earns a lot of money and in return we expect a player who is fit and produces on the pitch. At the moment it’s a one-sided deal. If Sergio was 26, his current injury wouldn’t even be a consideration, we would offer him a new deal and we would wait for him to return to fitness. You can’t take these chances with someone of his age, especially when Sergios wage will likely turn the head of any other striker we would want in world football.

I hope it can be sorted with everyone happy but if we go into next season paying him £10m+ for another year, can’t get him out on the pitch and haven’t signed a top-class replacement, we have made a huge error.

Sergio's turning 33 in June. If he was a Fernandinho-esque character who's been minimally injured over his City career and still in phenomenal shape? Sure, pay him what he wants. But that's not the case here.

As ever,no player is bigger than the club.....any new contract has to take into account his current/future impact on the club.As already stated,we cannot allow sentimentality to dictate the situation or,even worse, impact on the arrival of a replacement.
