Ajax fans are jelous of us

Exactly, Ajax are now just a footballing relic, a hangover from an age where teams from outside the big three/four leagues we see now, could have (and much more to the point, retain) top players and maintain top sides.

I don't blame them for being angry with 'modern football' but it's the Champions League and the commercialism around that they should be angry at - big-money owners like ours don't affect them a great deal. In fact, an influx of them into the Dutch league might be the only thing to improve it, keep their national stars playing there if nothing else.

And of course, the former led to the latter anyway. It's not as if elites were going to be left unchallenged after they'd been formed - not when the opportunity for investment in other clubs existed and there were no financial fair play rules.

it makes mi laugh all this crap about city ruining football i think a lot of the biased press forget its nearly seven years ago that the swampdwellers paid 30 million quid for a defender!! wot we supposed to do with the money from our generous owners??? save it up in a 1000 tonne piggy bank so we can stay as everyones second team??

It's not really jealousy though.

Most Germans fans feel the same way and actively fight anyone
being able to buy Bundesliga clubs.

So you can't say they would love it if it happened to them.

They are a slightly more famous version of Everton. Living in the past, pretending they hate all these big-money takeovers.

Until one day it happens to them - "Oh, hang on a minute......"

This, this and a little more of this.

My favourite pearl of wisdom peddled around is that we should have built a side slowly as this is the only 'right and proper' way to acheive success.

Yeah, of course it is.

Lol you guys do take this seriously... look at all the responses... there are probably a lot of City fans who would love to see the club handle all their businesses on their own (and don't have to face relegation as a consequence)... I always thought Manchester City is one of the nicest clubs in England.. It's not really pointing at the club Manchester City or whatever... It's much more how there transfer policies are and such. When Ajax comes a deep financial crisis they always can fall back on their youth.. something they are trying to do now again... Have you guys ever wondered what would happen if those sheiks got bankrupt or just decided their little toy (what you beautiful club is to them face it) isnt fun anymore?

Leed United scenario anyone? Enjoy the succes you'll get... Cause you'll probably get plenty.. At least clubs like Ajax can say every succes they've had comes from the club itself... and isnt bought... for some they don't care... others think of it different. I for one wouldnt like to see Ajax to be bought by some sheik... In 1995 the transfer system pretty much looked alike... with players like Bergkamp and van Basten moving to bigger clubs to test their luck... They won the Champions League with a very young team and a lot of own youth... it's not likely that will happen anytime soon again but if it was possible then... it's still possible today...

Greetings from holland, i don't think you should feel offended... but interpret it the way you like....

All the best in the future!

Hey City fans!,

Ajax fan over here.City is one of the strongest squads in Europe thanks to your owner.
All the dream team players in one team! Who doesn't want to have that, owner pays!

But guys let's be honest, unless you want to be called Arab FC or mercenaries City: Which real football supporter wants a team with not a single player from the CITY he's supporting.

AJAX,BARCA and BAYERN got all squads with 50-100 percent of their players born, educated and trained in their own accademy FROM or at least NEAR their own CITY.

Yeah coz a team full of youngsters got us everywhere. And we actually tried that. In fact, Micah still plays for us. We sold off our best academy graduate to Villa, and he aint playing any more. Kelvin, what happenbed there?

Fact is, we don't have your superb success rate when bringing youngsters in.. That's why you keep on winning the world cup, Holland.

Yeah well English football is different. How many have Arsenal got? One. Liverpool? Two.

United if you discount their near-retirees (being as they're from a previous footballing generation, essentially) will have none. All their academy graduates are from Northern Ireland/Scotland/Brazil.

Look lower down the league table and you'll probably find even less hometown players in the sides, rather than more, as it was in the past. That's just the way it is now, players don't represent the locality of the club any more.

Maybe the pool of talent isn't big enough, maybe they just don't see the need to be restrained by 'regressive' parochial thinking in a results-driven business. Either way, that's how it is.

You can think in terms of Dutch football all you like but you're comparing apples to oranges.

In England all of this is the rule, not the exception. Whether we like it or not.
