Violator is the seventh studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 19 March 1990 by Mute Records.

Preceded by the hit singles "Personal Jesus" and "Enjoy the Silence" (a top ten hit in both the UK and US), Violator propelled the band into international stardom. The album yielded two further hit singles, "Policy of Truth" and "World in My Eyes". Violator is the band's first album to reach the top ten on the Billboard 200, peaking at number seven. It was supported by the World Violation Tour.

1. World in My Eyes
2. Sweetest Perfection
3. Personal Jesus
4. Halo
5. Waiting For The Night
6. Enjoy The Silence
7. Policy Of Truth
8. Blue Dress
9. Clean

This is the landmark Depeche Mode Album which i suppose could divide many fans of this band as it was the biggest commercial success they had, for me its a brilliant album , dark, indie, synth pop at its best and after 25 years it still sounds fresh and modern. This is them at there peak - 'World In My Eyes', 'Policy Of Truth', 'Personal Jesus' and personal favourite 'Enjoy The Silence' were all hits and deservedly so, 'Halo' also deserves a mention, great track. This was the album that saw the band completely make the transformation from synth poppers to something altogether more interesting, more guitars, more drums and lyrically deeper. Top stuff.

The best album they've done.
Great music with fantastic lyrics and enjoy the Silence still sounds great 25 years on.
One of my favourite bands.
I think I read in an interview with Martin gore and Dave gahan a few years back that around the time of violator they started doing the hard drugs and the class A's which had spiralled out of control by the time the devotional tour had finished in early 95.
Great shout for album of the day.

The best Album of the Day you have ever done Mark. Violator is an absolute masterpiece from start to finish. I love the pop tunes on there but for me 'Clean' is a belter. Obviously, it goes without saying that DM are one of my favourite bands of all time and I'm slightly biased but still...

Cracking album.

I can't stand Depeche Mode. It's the lead singer, he just makes my fucking teeth itch. Something about his ratlike face that really grinds my gears.

Another classic from the Boys from Basildon....

Big fan in the day and they did some amazing stuff

My favourite for a blast is the live album "101" but Violator was right up there with the best albums they have done
