Dookie is the third studio album by American punk rock band Green Day, released on February 1, 1994, through Reprise Records. It was the band's first collaboration with producer Rob Cavallo and its major record label debut. Dookie became a worldwide commercial success, peaking at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 and charting in seven countries. The album helped propel Green Day, and even punk rock music into mainstream popularity. Dookie was certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America for the shipment of 10 million copies.

Dookie produced five hit singles for the band: "Longview", "When I Come Around", "Basket Case", a re-recorded version of "Welcome to Paradise" and the radio-only single "She". The album has garnered considerable acclaim, from its release to present day, winning a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1995 and being ranked No. 193 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. As of 2014, Dookie is the band's best-selling album with more than 20 million copies sold worldwide.

Review 183

Green Day at their best and a breakthrough album for punk/grunge-rock pop exploding them into the mainstream - really enjoyed this one, a mixture of angst and humour, catchy lyrics and music with so many hit songs 'Longview' 'Basket Case' 'Welcome To Paradise' and 'When I Come Around' , themed around anxiety, paranoia, boredom, girls, masturbation and getting stoned! it's just brilliant - seemed to take over Nirvana and take punk/pop into a different direction influencing likes of Blink 182, Alien Ant Farm, Sum 41 and more. a masterpiece.

9.3/10

Loved this as a poppy-punky thing to water down my hardcore roots.

The This! chaps love green day and i took the eldest to see them at the arena last year. He said it was the best day of his (then 13) life. I obviously had to slap him and tell him "no, old bean - that was the Aguerrrrooooooo moment"

Loved this album. The soundtrack of Summer 1994. No school, sun (in patches), Commodore Amiga, squidgy black. Happy days.

10 year old me bought this on cassette. Still love it today and often stream it. Goes by far too quickly though.
