He released 'I just can't stop loving you' on 20th July 87 and the last release was 'Liberian girl' on July 3rd 89. Correct, literally just checked it a few minutes ago haha! Ye, not many artists would take a 5 year gap and then disperse the singles of that new album out over 2 years after coming off the success of an album like Thriller. Anyone can put up what they want, MJ was the ultimate showman and like you said owned the 80's but what's interesting to me is that he isn't often the vocal point of 80's nostalgia like you'd think he should be and I feel part of the reason is his music is often timeless and you don't automatically think 80's when you hear his stuff from that time period.

Loved Thriller but didn't like anything on this record. Crap.
Just because you didn't like it, doesn't make it crap, there are some exceptional vocals on this album and yet again infectious bass lines and melodies.
