Had a BRILLIANT game today. It was clearly from the outset that he was going to be the left sided defender in a 2 (3 when Fernandinho dropped inbetween them) when we had the ball, with Stones going right and the FBs moving inside to the RM & LM positions, supplementing Silva and KDB, who were clearly there for attacking purposes.
Even those simple moves/movements are somewhat revolutionary in the English league, but that is exactly what he has preached throughout pre-season...players being players and understanding what each other's jobs are by doing them. It is clear that Pep sees the team being a unit made up of two inter linked parts: a whole team defence, but a two piece team when on the attack. Thought Kolarov and Fernandinho did a superb job of linking the two today.
