Aleksandar Kolarov - 2016/17 performances

That run he made up the middle at the end of the game was maybe the best play of the game. How can this be the same footballer? Was Pep really that clueless as a coach?

He's had a real up and down time here really. Injured on his debut by a challenge that went unpunished and didn't get it back all season.
Picked up slightly but always weak defensively, until the season before last when he was excellent. It was as if somebody taught him how to defend overnight.
Last season was a bit of a rollercoaster in itself.
But he's a solid looking athlete, shame he doesn't have any pace, but he can pass a ball well and I bet it hurts if you run into him.
Pep has played a DM and FB together in the centre of defense before, although usually because the DM can read and pass and the FB is quick on the turn.
Perhaps he has another idea up his sleeve with AK.
(also wondering whether his 'jogging back aimlessly' for that Arsenal goal had more to it. He was pointing and shouting at Clichy and it's possible that he was due to cover the winger on the ball whilst GC should have dropped into the box to cover the danger - just a thought - remember, we can only apply knowledge of what we've seen before and Pep writes it as he goes along)

I imagine Otamendi will start when fit but the important point about Kolarov's performance today is that Pep knows he has another option who can fit fairly comfortably into his tactical system. Well done Aleks.

On the flipside after watching the analysis - can anyone imagine Kolarov playing as a fullback anymore? ;)

I gotta agree with the above it was "only" sunderland (no disrespect intended). Arsenal in the pre season who have much better players made him look a complete ****.
Is it that hard for you to give any praise for him today? A competitive match with a new partner next to him and he had a good game. Irrespective of the opposition, he demonstrated a willingness to adapt and embrace Peps ideas, and he did that with commitment. But all you want to muster was its only Sunderland

I'm merely suggesting waiting until he has to defend against world class players before judging him but don't let me stop you getting carried away about his performance.
