In my opinion, Alex was a genius and without him snooker would have died as a professional sport.

This break iagainst Jimmy White really exemplifies his style. It was awful and brilliant.

Alex Higgins - Legend.

i met him once i got up in the morning when i was a kid to watch cartoons and there was this lump sprawled on my living room couch, when he eventually stopped snoring and woke up he asked me for a drink of water and asked me if i knew who he was i said no and he asked me if i would like his autograph,
he sighned it6 onto a book of matches he had gotten from bel vue dogs where he had been with my step dad.
not knowing who he was and being a bit of a fire bug i went out and made a bonfire with my freinds and burnt the book of matches aswell, i didnt realise who he was until a few years later when i saw him on telly.

got him to autograph a packet of king size green rizla about 17-18 years ago , whilst sat in the bar at piccadilly train station . sat and had a slurp with him whilst waiting for my train to huddersfield .
something you don't do everyday .

( get a train to huddersfield )

Used to see him in the bookies in shaftesbury square in Belfast all the time, decked out in a black stetson and a black like cloak ala johnny cash, still likes a drink in a few seedy late night bars in Belfast but he's still a legend!

Alex went everywhere by train (he couldn't drive).

I've met him 3 times. He's a great bloke until he's drunk and then he isn't nice anymore.

He kept me up as a kid watching his matches and I played and won a lot at pool using his nervous, snatchy style.

I played pool with Alex in the Lake Hotel at Belle Vue once. He was absolutely pissed. I was 18 and I let him beat me, even though I could have won easily. I didn't want him to lose.

like most who like a drink he can be a monumental pain in the arse sometimes

but you can deny he was a natural and fantastic entertainment

look at all those boring bastards who play snooker on tv nowadays - can you name more than 3 or 4?

I bought a mk2 black RS200 off him in 1989....black t reg for 2200, my brother has it in his garage in dublin......worth a good £13500.....i love him.

he was a fab player always enjoyed watching him and Jimmy White but my all time favourite was Ray Reardon he always had a twinkle in his eye , had some late nights watching the finals over the years

My Husband went to a exhibition match of Jimmy White and John Virgo but Jimmy was ill and Alex played instead my husband said he was a very talented and born entertainer
