Apparently us and Chelsea are interested due to him being homegrown.

Barcelona midfielder Alex Song has emerged as a surprise option for Manchester City and Chelsea because of his homegrown status.

Song, who has enjoyed a reasonable season with West Ham on loan, will not be staying at Upton Park beyond the summer and has attracted interest from AC Milan and neighbours Inter.

However, he is also being discussed at City and Chelsea as an option for their squads owing to their need to add homegrown players.

Arsenal signed Song from Bastia when he was 17. Barcelona will sell the 27-year-old for around £6million.

Inter had considered Song as an alternative to Yaya Toure but Inter vice president Javier Zanetti said today: 'Yaya? We are at the stage where we hope that we can finalise a deal, he would help us make a step up in quality.'

Chelsea and City both retain interest in Everton defender John Stones, as reported by Sportsmail earlier this month, but Chelsea, in particular, are keen to sign the 20-year-old who has been named in the provisional England Under 21 squad.

He may have started the season well but he's been utter wank for quite a while now; literally falls asleep at times. I'd rather we stay away from Sinclair-esque stop gaps and £5/6/7m a pop and invest in quality and promote youth ahead of potential moves like this; especially if it's just to fill a HG spot.

Agree had his best game and one of only a few for West Ham against us at their place in October. Just our luck sometimes remember going to QPR when the GK Cesar had his one and only decent game for them.

Really don't rate him and never have done. I remember in his Arse days some pundit, I think Souness, saying that he is a terrible holding midfielder because he doesn't sense danger and I think that's spot on. He just watches the game go by at times, not reacting to things untill far too late to make a difference. His possession as well is frequently really dodgy, making poor passes in dangerous areas. West Ham is closer to his level

Amen to that

I think he would be fine for us. He's only been shit for West Ham recently because they are mid table and he's on loan

Any player that does not improve our starting 11 is a waste of time. We have plenty of decent squad players. Apart from fernandinho we haven't signed anyone who would be in our starting 11 since aguero Nasri summer.

At his best IMO an upgrade on Fernando .... But after a good start to the season has looked average
