Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I’m not for a second defending his behaviour.

It’s a disgrace he’s said that to a colleague and I’d be in a disciplinary proceeding for swearing at someone.

It’s not sexist or racist though.

Since I've already laid out the 'sexist' angle, I will agree that if AOC has not deferred this insult as 'racist' in her riposte, I'm good with that.

an insult is an insult when somebody is offended and consensus agrees with it being offensive, otherwise, as has through time quite fairly been the case, the lone individual is told to grow a pair and stop being morally outraged all the time.

So, if an individual is insulted in a closed room where no one can hear, it's not 'offensive'??

A bit like "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

Your example, based upon the above, is nonsense.

Whether you like it or not, if the opposite sex places a gender within an insult, it becomes 'sexist' which is the very definition of the word.

Whether the receiving person regards it as 'sexist' id down to the individual.

Not sure how much clearer that definition can be?

"Facts don't care about your feelings", I believe the saying goes.
I disagree, I think context is the most important thing but I’m not sure we should continue this English language debate.

I think we both agree abusing someone isn’t warranted, especially in a professional setting.

There’s at least a shred of an argument for it being sexist, there’s no grounds for claiming racism with that abuse at this point.

If I called you a “fucking dick head”, which is a similar level of insult aimed at men, there’s no way you could claim I was being racist by that alone.

He’s obviously a wanker, men who swear at women like that always are, it shows a lack of class.

By the way do people not call men bitches in America? You seem to think that’s bollocks?
Very infrequently, and with zero equivalence to its frequency of use towards women.

Even when used against men, no matter how rarely, it is still a derogatory slam on women!

My understanding is woman and **** are still regarded worldwide as the most degrading insults to women.

Personally I would never call a women either.

And yes woman like bastard has been changed with context of a conversation to be a different word or meaning, but as a direct insult to a women it is a no no for me
