Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I know they have different meanings but it’s still used as an insult to both.

I watch enough American TV to know.

Your last line is humorous, you must have been wrapped in cotton wool your whole life.
Yeah, that must be it...born in Torquay, raised in Macclesfield, Withington, Radcliffe, Mossley, Chicago, while traveling all over England and Europe, as a kid, and the world since! Haha!

I haven’t been arrested, or been inside, and I haven’t lived on the streets. I did have a father whose nickname was Gentleman Jack and a mother I treated with respect, and also been married to the same loving wife for 34 years, with a 23 yo daughter who demands respect, so I can see why I’m the one at fault for thinking woman is a derogatory term.

My bad, I guess? I’ll just have to give myself a good talking to! What a stupid woman I am, right?! ;-)

No man should swear at a woman full stop, you don’t need to pretend to be a white knight mate, we all agree he’s overstepped the mark in swearing at AOC but we don’t need to try and pretend it’s some sexist injustice.

I’m no white knight, unless that means “treating women with respect,” and you’re right, it only includes, but goes far beyond “sexist injustice”...or are you saying he would have used that language to a man?

As for AOC, she is simply using Yoho as a prop for the concept she is trying to get across. The diminution of “other,” as it pertains to the old white males who run everything in American society, is the point she is making. The comfort they enjoy, such that he felt quite comfortable saying such a thing to and about her, is what she is getting at.

It is so institutionalized within American society, where women have not made the strides they have elsewhere, where the glass ceiling is a real obstacle that is being chipped away at in places, but is still derided in even more, that is also an issue she is speaking to.

As a Latina woman, she feels this even more, because that same society is also inherently racist, was literally built on racism, and didn’t even acknowledge that the races should have equal rights until 100 years AFTER the Civil War to free slaves. And, even then, in many areas of the country, the white society closed ranks and kept inequality alive and well, while still lynching any negro who stepped out of line or forgot “his place.”

I have not expressed a single thing about my politics or theirs, because the politics of this are simply the backdrop to the event, the stage in which the play took place. The substance of this interaction, and the much deeper, darker, pervasively prevalent issues she is addressing should be the focus.

Against the backdrop of a country where black men are gunned down by police with relative impunity, where pleading for your life to a policeman while convicted of no crime carries not only no weight but no mercy, and where the simple protest of these things leads to the assembling of an unidentifiable federal army descending upon your city to create a law and order crisis where only one side is armed, where only one side is extra-judicial, where only one side is unwelcome...all so that an old white man can cling to the last vestiges of the awesome power he has as the country turns away from him... Against THAT backdrop of racial and political divide, AOC was making the point that we are ALL equal, women and men, black, white and everything in between, and she is demanding that Neanderthals like Yoho, and the other Neanderthals he represents, wake up to the realities of the world that is moving beneath their feet.

Never has the term “fucking woman” carried so much not-so-hidden meaning, but then never has it been met by a speech from a young woman who met the moment so eloquently and forcefully.

Yoho should be forced to retire, just as if he had walked into work, walked upto a co-worker, and said it in front of everyone in the office and all the shareholders, because in doing it where he did it, when he did it, that’s exactly what he did.

Will he retire? Not a chance, because when your bio starts with “Yoho, a Florida man...” there is literally nothing that comes next that surprises anyone.

Turning the Titanic, one degree at a time...

Just out of interest, when the word 'woman' is used to insult a man, what exactly is the insult? Isn't the whole point of using 'woman' to refer to a man that you're using an insult that's normally reserved for a woman, thereby questioning his manhood? Kinda like how 'faggot' doesn't cease to be a slur against homosexual men just because it's often used to insult straight men too. The whole point is that it would be insulting for a straight man to be compared to a gay one, or in the case of woman, for a man to be compared to a woman. There are also insults that question a woman's femininity (butch, etc), but as far as I know, there isn't a word that's usually an insult for men that is then used to insult women to question their femininity. I can't say I ever hear anyone call a woman a bastard, for example.

As I said earlier, I think the while woman is obviously a gendered insult, it's not necessarily a sign of misogyny on the part of the person saying it. I think how you use it, the context in which you use it, and the person you use it to could be though. But then that would apply to any insult.

There you go again, as if you’re the only defence against a wave of sexist abuse.

I’ve literally just said men shouldn’t swear at women, it’s just in this instance, it wasn’t a sexist attack, he used a bog standard swear word.

Sigh, we’re on to race again and white people are bad.

Do you know something? You lot are the most racist people going, it’s every single conversation and opportunity you bring it up. We will never ever get over race because your type make everything about it.

Utter bollocks.

America is one of the best places to live in the world as a woman.

It’s a straw man argument.

Race again. You’ll never move on from it.

Sigh.

Because you think her skin colour is more important than what comes out of her mouth.

There is a bit of an issue with the police and I think they need more training and stricter background checks but this insinuation they’re roaming around like Gestapo firing squads, just looking for blacks to kill is slightly over the top.

The biggest danger facing black men in America is other black men.

The biggest issue facing them progressing in life is 70% single parent families.

The progressives couldn’t give a fuck about that, it’s not about protecting black people or helping them.

You’ve just decided that, you’ve decided what was going through Yoho’s head when he said it, just as you make up a scenario and paint it how you want it to look.

Yoho should be forced to retire, just as if he had walked into work, walked upto a co-worker, and said it in front of everyone in the office and all the shareholders, because in doing it where he did it, when he did it, that’s exactly what he did.

He should face action but forcing someone to retire for one mistake is again, over the top.

Will he retire? Not a chance, because when your bio starts with “Yoho, a Florida man...” there is literally nothing that comes next that surprises anyone.

I’ve no idea what that even means, as if that bio is in anyway a bad thing? Heaven forbid him saying he’s from Florida.

You think that but the majority hate your identity political race baiting.

There’s a sky news article that BAME people hold just 4.6% of UK’s most powerful roles but @Ban-jani thinks there’s no race issues in the work place nor white privilege these days.

I genuinely want to smash my head against a brick wall.

I have been through this with you already, my entire argument several pages back specifically said “TAKE THE TOP 1% OUT”.

You know why you need to do that?

Because it takes decades to reach the top and decades ago the UK was far more racist than it is now.

They will all be white men too, because when they worked 60+ hours a week to reach the top, women weren’t working anywhere near as much, due to the family unit still being in tact, mass immigration under Tony Blair and Cameron hadn’t fucking happened yet and as I say, Britain was more racist back then.

What percentage of the UK was BAME 30 years ago when these people running our industries were starting to progress?

Do you want us to offer CEO jobs to poor immigrants that have just arrived?

I work in STAFFING, at all levels, every single one of my clients has a diversity quota that needs to be hit. We monitor it for them and even before this latest hysteria, they all had specific diversity roles within HR to ensure minorities were getting chances.

This involves 2 large financial companies, a housing company, a major retailer and a tech company.

You genuinely haven’t a fucking clue what you’re on about, you see a stat and never ask why.

To be a FTSE 100 CEO, you need to work 50-100 hours a week, flat out, for about 30 years, usually, to get to the top.

It’s why women aren’t there and people who have arrived in the UK as a poor migrant, aren’t there yet.

Do you understand now?

As you well know, because of your inability (decision) to format your post as you did, it would require significant time and effort to respond to it in the depth it would require (if I wanted to waste that time), because of all the nonsense it contained.

Accordingly, I copied the one word from your words that summed up my own...Sigh.

I don’t know why you are choosing to be obtuse, nor why you are going to such great lengths to prove it to so many other people, but it certainly is exasperating...Sigh.

I honestly don’t know what you’re trying to achieve by ignoring the obvious truth and facts I’m providing you, but as ignorance is the path you have chosen, I will leave you to wallow in it...Sigh.

Like I’ve said to you before, post evidence to back up your claims otherwise it’s nothing more than bias trash you’re spouting.

Do you understand now?

What a cop out.

Why don’t you tell me what part of my post is incorrect?

You do realise the average age of a FTSE 100 CEO is 55 don’t you?

The UK workforce average is about 15, yes 15, years younger than that.

Why? Because you have to be the most experienced for the job and you need to work your arse off for decades.

At 55 you’ve likely been working 40 years in total, even if part time, you’ve likely been in a decent job since 25 and for the next 30 years you need to put everything you’ve got into reaching the top. You need to fight off the best competition there is, it’s dog eat dog.

In 1971 the percentage of the UK that was foreign born was 5%, there’s your BAME people in the top 1% now.

In 1991 it was 6%.

In 2011 it was 13%.

These people are catching up and are up against the rest of us in the rat race.

They haven’t been here long enough to make it to become a CEO in a leading industry.

Now either directly counter my points or do one.
