Alexis Sanchez

depends how much Sanchez wants City.
Not sure if I'm right here,so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm under the impression that if Sanchez digs his heels in and refuses to go anywhere other than City,he will then see out the last year of his contract and go for free....OR Arsenal sell to us and take the cash.
If Sanchez wants us badly, then we're in the driving seat,it's too much money for them to lose.
That right?

More or less yeah.

Arsenal aren't really run with the thoughts of the supporters in mind, otherwise Wenger wouldn't still be calling the shots. They won't want to lose him on a free and lose out on circa 50 million pounds. Even for a RICH club that's a ridiculous amount of money to pass up for a player who doesn't want to stay and who could leave in a year for free.

The Bayern interest is very real and they're pushing him really hard. Ultimately though I think he's going to be a City player come the start of next season.

Absolutely agree they are brilliant, and I listen to everyone of them. I hadn't twigged they were as 93.20. I don't do twitter, but I still want to say a huge thanks to @BillyShears for putting these pods together, they can't be easy and must take time and effort to set up. Brilliant job and greatly appreciated!!

Fucking hell, that's really kind. Nice one mate.

It's weird how the "reliable" sources like: The Times, Telegraph, Guardian, Kicker etc....are all about Sanchez to Bayern. City are just a small side interest. But no real contender.

Then there is basically Sam Lee from Goal.....and some Chilean journalist who are reporting he prefers City. And that City are confident of getting him.

Who to believe?

It's not that weird. Have you seen what's just happened with Van Dijk? The absolute worst thing City could do right now is start gloating to the press "Sanchez only wants to come to us". There's a reason why we tend to avoid briefing the media during crunch moments of a transfer deal - we don't want to end up antagonising the club we're trying to deal with. Arsenal will respect the fact that there's not a weekly backpage screaming "Alexis to City".

Folks on ArsenalMania are pretty much confident that they won't sell him to City at any cost

I'm sure thats what they hope but they dont know whats happening - Arsenal are unlikely to hold on to an unhappy player who they would then lose for nothing in 2018; if nothing else Arsenal are financially prudent. Precedent tells us if players push for something hard enough they usually get it.

If that's the case (and I'm not doubting you), why are people like Sam, Blackburn & Mullock still getting fed info? If we're going for radio silence shouldn't there be...silence?

It's about controlled pressure, surely?

We aren't leaking huge headlines and rubbing it in the Arsenal board/fans face that we are probably in contact,
Although we need the constant odd comment and line in the papers and press to ensure the pressure is still there and forcing them into a decision to sell

Can't let them ride this out without any mention of it, otherwise how keen do we really come across to the player too?

Yes I think you are right, we are a lot classier than our rivals, but we get fuck all credit for it

I really don't think the "constant odd comment and line in the press" is going to force them into a decision to sell. The only thing that will do that is Sanchez forcing a move here and only here - it's not going to come from a biweekly goal or Sun article.

I think you have to be a little more subtle in your thinking. All they've been "fed" on the record is that Alexis is a transfer target for this summer. Beyond that City aren't saying very much and quite frankly it's rare that City give up anything of relevance about a deal they are pursuing. That information comes from other places, for example journalists in Chile or in Barcelona, people who are close to Pep in the media or close to Alexis.

I think the credit is in the last few years we've signed Stones + Sterling without there being an enormous fuss made by the selling club. Look at the way that Chelsea antagonised Everton over their Stones pursuit the year before we signed him. Word is that that's the major reason that Chelsea buying Lukaku has been such a headache. Similarly for the noise in the press, Liverpool never complained about the way we conducted the Sterling transfer. I daresay if we sign Walker it'll be a similar scenario where it the deal gets done without Spurs making a lot noise in the press.

Yes it's all up to Sanchez now if he tells arsenal it's either city now or city in 12 months either way that's where I will eventually end up. Arsenal would be stupid to resist for these reasons 1. Keeping an unhappy player 2. Losing out on a potential 50m and 3. There potentially putting there future plans back 12months by keeping a player they are going have to replace in 12 months time. If what is being posted is true then I expect Sanchez to be a city player before the end of the window.

Just to say, for the respect I have for Romero, Lee and others, the one journalist who carries the absolute most weight here is Maks Cardenas and everyone should pay attention when he has something to say. He is as connected as it comes for Chilean nationals in Europe and has a flawless track record on their transfers etc.

So far, Cardenas is only saying what we already know - Sanchez wants to come to us, but Arsenal are pushing hard that he should leave the league (ie, to Bayern). I concur with @BillyShears, and it certainly appears City do also, that if the player simply holds strong in the face of pressure then sooner or later he will be ours.

Sanchez has all the power here. He doesn't have to extend his contract, or go to Germany. If he wants City, then City he will have. And Arsenal can cry and whine about it til the rags come home, but it does the square root of fuck all at the end of the day. And you know what? I think they'll just take the £50m, get a few signings and weather the storm.

Fair enough.

By the way, you mentioned in the pod that if Bayern signed a winger things might start getting interesting.

Don't know how good your german is but looks like they've somehow engineered a situation where they can pick up Serge Gnabry for free, and while he's definitely not Sanchez, he's young, very promising and German, and Uli Hoeness loves having Germans in the side (3 of his 4 transfers since coming back from prison have been Germans).

They wanted Brandt really badly this summer and Sane last summer. TBH i think there's no love lost between Bayern and City and if they can fuck our Sanchez situation and take him, i'm sure they will.

@BillyShears absolute gold that podcast mate, I like the way you get the journalists to open up great questioning technique keep them coming thanks.
