What was that all about?

Went for a p*iss just after they scored and was told by the steward at the steps that I was allowed out to the toilets but because of an “amber alert” I wouldn’t be allowed back in

There was a growing crowd on the concourse who were not happy cos they weren’t being allowed back into the stand and at half time I saw one of them talking to the head steward who was taking notes. After about 10 minutes the steward got a radio message to stand down as the alert was over. Very weird

It didn't happen to me but the bloke next to me (Colin Bell top tier) was kicking off about this after being stuck on the concourse, so it was the whole stadium. Oddly, I noticed some smoke drifting out of the south end of the stand at the same time. I'd guess this is some sort of terrorist alert/threat thing.

Think somebody had burnt the hot dogs judging by the smell in 212

It was in all the stands apparently. Not sure what it was about but I saw the amber flashing light for quite a long time and the stewards had to stand up for ages and ages keeping an alert eye on supporters.

Could it have been because there appeared to be more so many 'away' fans in the stands last night. I was told of 2 who refused to leave their places when told by a woman steward but when a burly Showsec steward just beckoned with his finger (no ribald remarks ok?) they left their seats immediately. He didn't even speak to them just beckoned them up the steps!!

It wouldn't have been anything to do with away fans, EB. It would have been some sort of terror/fire/evacuation type thing.

We arrived at the ground 15 minutes late and they were not letting anybody into the ground, once we got in they will not let us into the stands. Got to my seat 30 seconds before we scored.

Got to know the stewards quite well over the years. They had an incident which they were dealing with. Wouldn't specify what it was. Spoke to the club this morning and it was a security alert

Yes, I saw the amber flashing light above the Exec boxes in the North Stand.

Did wonder if it was a bomb alert because at Maine Road there used to be a blue flashing light and the "Mr. Banks is in the Main Stand" announcement.

We did say there was a smell of burning and one of the people near me said they had seen smoke when they were coming in so you are probably right DD.

I bet Booefa wish it had been a red alert and then the stadium would have been evacuated wouldn't it? They would have said we couldn't replay it and take our points off us!!

Booefa! I like it. Did you come up with that one yourself?

it was a stadium wide thing last night, there was a threat so they stop people going back to their seats until they get the all clear that they don't need to evacuate the stadium, its not safe letting people go to where there could potentially be a threat or issue..... its just so everyone is safe, its annoying but I know i'd rather that than something else

Yeah, EB. If the stadium needs to be evacuated they can't have people trying to get in at the same time. That's how catastrophes happen.

I would hate to sit where you do, @Eccles Blue, I can see your head from my seat, and that bloody steward near you never shuts up. I wonder how those near the front see any of the game with him rabbiting on.

Someone told me there had been a fire in one of the kitchens. You could definitely smell smoke.

Its just a standby to evacuate the stadium, happens a couple of times a season. you can see the orange flashing lights and the stewards usually go towards the front of the tier.
