I like the Leidseplein. It's a great place to start the night: loads of cheap ethnic restaurants, outside seating and a good buzz. I'll be up there for a Malaysian or something the night before the game. Wouldn't even mind some of those ribs you mention.

Amsterdam is famous for its Indonesian Food. You should find a nice place and order a rice table. 10 - 12 dishes of varying heat for a group, it is delicious...

Had a nice little rice table on one of the little streets next to Leidseplein a month or so ago. Very nice. Once had a 50 course Indonesian banquet somewhere in Amsterdam.
