An away end at home

Last nights atmosphere at West Brom was pretty good and the noise made by 2,500 ~ 3,000 blues was quite impressive.

There has been a lot of debate on how the atmosphere at home can be improved, well, if we had that level of noise and chanting at home there would be no debate at all

We have a big opportunity in 18 months to get an improvement organised.

Could the club provide an area and invite, say, all fans who have attended an away game during the previous season, to relocate to this 'area'.

An away end at home!!!

Now some fans wouldn't want to relocate for a whole raft of reasons, but. I'm sure at least 2,500 - 3,000 would. The 'away' atmosphere would also then be able to be created at home

I'm not saying this is THE answer, but it's an option worth debating

Re: Atmosphere home/away

I'm all for a section where everybody in it wants to sing

Where do I sign up?

Re: Atmosphere home/away

The atmosphere last night was top, but our home atmosphere is bloody brilliant compared to west broms. The only noise i could hear was the drummer!

Eh? haha....

I've seen Blues sing all night long on away trips but are as quiet as a mouse at home matches.

The reason away atmosphere is better is because fans tend to drink in similar places, travel together etc and this creates that "Group" mentality more.

Home atmosphere can be improved by introducing safe standing, making it much easier for Blues to relocate and stand with friends improving the "Group" mentality.

Unreserved spaces then?? Because standing on its own won't improve the atmosphere, we have about 4,000 standing either side of the away fans now

Re: Atmosphere home/away

It's crazy to me that away games have more of a home supportive atmosphere then matches actually at home ..the singing was clear you can hear what we were saying everyone sang the same song (which doesn't happen at home games) it sounded so organized..to me yesterday's away support added a pride we were missing and it gave the team the boost they always wanted..can we have our home matches at the hawthorns?

move all the people out of the south stand who don't sing and stand there with arms folded ( might be most of the stand ;)). Replace them with people who will sing.

we need to look at having a singing section like palace do where constant singing goes on and flags, scarves etc are allowed

You could put your best 3,000 beer fueled singers in the South Stand lower and the atmosphere wouldn't improve quite as much as we think due to the lack of noise retention in the stadium design.

In short, it's acoustically dead!

Sure the 3,000 involved in the singing would feel the noise but I'm not convinced either the rest of the stadium or TV audiences would notice a huge difference.

I'm all for trying mind, but I think pure physics plays the biggest negative part in lack of atmosphere rather than the fans.

I completely disagree the stadium is not to blame there was times in the past few seasons that the etihad was one of the loudest grounds in the league..commentators would always compliment us for being very loud..and when I watched those matches on tv I heard it banging through my speakers ..but the supporters have become lazy show up to games late and sit there like its a quiet church..the stadium design of the roofs are more than good enough to carry the noise ..the stadium cannot be blamed until the singing is being done and it's proven..as of right now the blame is squarely on those who attend the matches sitting in sections where singing is expected..
