An Evening With Manchester City Legends - 6th May at the Opera House

I understand he's not many people's hero, but four years at City, 130 games as manager, and back to back 5th place finishes.

We only finished above 10th three times in the thirty years before the takeover, and half of those were under Reid. Would have got us into Europe, if not for the ban, so not all bad.
Peter Reid probably wouldn't be particularly near the top of my list of favourite players and there are quite a few managers I did rate more highly than Peter Reid at City.
However, even though I wouldn't call him a 'legend' as such I do think he always gave his all as a player and did a pretty decent job at City as manager.
The football maybe wasn't always the prettiest and we did maybe go backwards at the end of his tenure. In his time we certainly had have some quality players and certainly put out some pretty decent sides .As you say finishing 5th , 2 years running was quite impressive (the first one was the first time we'd finished above the rags for some time was pleasing for sure!) and if it were now we would have qualified for Europe then , and that which would have been great at the time (if that makes sense!)

I don't mind Peter Reid being in the line-up of a 'City Legends' night even if he probably hasn't reached legend status for our club. He certainly was an Everton legend in their great side.

He was a crucial player in turning a City
team that was 22nd in Division One and going straight back down in 1989-90 to safety and one that finished 5th twice in a row. He brought steel and quality to a lightweight midfield and was a decent player. He wasn't a bad City manager either. We over paid for Curle and Phelan but they were very good players particularly Curly-Wurly. He recognised that selling Hendry was a mistake. Overall he did a decent job as manager even if the mainly long ball tactics were eventually sussed and finished 9th in his last full season. City, were though, hard to beat under Kendall and Reid, and we were at the top end rather than bottom, which was a refreshing change.

We were better to watch away because we had more space to play in but let's not forget some great performances like beating Leeds 4-0 and Liverpool 2-1. If he'd been given the chance to bring in Andy Townsend and a young Trevor Sinclair rather than Alfons Groenendijk and being sacked by Swales he could have kicked on again.

This will be a top night ,Eddie is a true city legend and is tireless in his fundraising for all sorts of charities ,like I tell him regularly the world needs more Eddie's .
Booked a table of 10 for Eddie's do, really looking forward to it.

He tells me there's loads more former Blues in attendance than advertised on the flier. Including Lakey, Brian Horton, Big Joe, Lee Crooks, the Brightwell brothers. John Henshaw who was the coach in The Keeper is also attending.

Should be a belting night mate.

Peter Reid is the manager that repeatedly picked Adrian Heath over Clive Allen, week after week, after week. Still makes my blood boil to this very day. Him and Sam Elliss..
Didn’t Clive score as many goals in two minutes as Heath had scored all season, when he replaced the useless twat in an FA Cup game?
