An interesting article with Palace cult hero Harkouk

An interesting read from an era a fair few of us will remember. Something I didn't recollect was George Best breaking another players leg. Remember the same genial George also finished Glyn Pardoes career by breaking his leg at the swamp.

Glyn Pardoe continued to play after his break healed

Glyn was lucky that Sidney Rose, a surgeon, who was on City's board went down to see Glyn and immediately contacted the Manchester Royal to prep for surgery. It seems that this prompt action saved Glyn's leg

He did but was never the same player again.

" After suffering a severe leg injury in 1970, Pardoe spent two years on the sidelines, and struggled to hold down a first team place upon his return. He retired in 1976, taking a place on the coaching staff, and remained at the club until 1992."

I was at the game as a kid and remember the rag bastards singing, "We hope you've broke your leg" as he was carried off on a stretcher.

Wasnt aware of Best(while playing for Fulham)breaking Ian Evans leg, snapping it in two with a karate kick and walking away showing no emotion..

Also found out recently that Gary Bailey ended the career of Notts County winger Ian McCulloch,at meadow lane ,in the early 80s..broke his leg in a last min penalty area challenge which by all accounts was a clear pen,but the ref. ,intimidated by the huge away following didnt give it..
McCulloch never played again...Harkouk prob played in this game too..

When you think of Buchan/Bell Best /Pardoe and Keane/Haaland theres a pattern developing over the years of utd/ex utd players effectively ending other players careers.. glory glory man utd?

He actually saved Pardoe’s life.
