Angelino

As a wingback in a 343 his crossing was really deadly. Disappointed in this as Mendy is the only choice wide left.

It does not suit Sterling and Zinchenko to play this role.
I suppose Pep want the options of playing either 3 at the back with a wing back, or 4 and his inverted fullback. Unless we keep all 3 which I didn’t expect us to then Mendy and Zinchenko gives us a better option than Mendy and Angelino.

We always bought him back with the idea we might sell soon, clearly.

Other clubs were sniffing around last summer at a higher fee than the buyback and the interest was high so we figured trigger the buy back clause which was a bargain and see if he can make it.

Being that he is a club home grown player and improved massively last season it was not bad at all and we will make a nice profit if the option to buy is triggered.

His attacking and crossing ability in particular is strong as did I recall whilst in the academy. His poor defending skills were present then and even in the preseason where he was destroyed in his first few appearances.

He showed more there at times but with Zinchenko back and Mendy now improving there is no room for him and he may have even asked to go for all we know to play more. If one of those don’t make it we will buy for a sure fire 1st team player and he’d be left out anyway baring massive improvement.

Wish him well and this is a very good move for him as the Bundesliaga is the most attacking league right now from what I understand and good for young players looking to get time to make the next step or not.

The problem with 4 atb and using say Zincehnko as an inverted leftback is that someone still has to play wide left.

With Sane it's fine because he is left footed and has pace but Sterling likes to play inside and is right footed so it doesn't work.

Yes, but if Sane doesn’t stay I’m assuming we’ll buy a left footed replacement.

Sad to say, but has been surprisingly bad and looked totally out of place in each game I've watched him in. Had high hopes after the success in PSV, but doubt we'll see him in blue again.

I thought he was good away at Burnley but that’s about it. I can’t see him playing for us again but I can’t see RB paying £25mil either. I suspect he’ll be back but then loaned or sold for around 10-15mil

He was one of our weak links IMO. He was pretty poor compared to Walker and even a fully fit Mendy. He made the simple stuff look complicated at times and he was never going to be good enough for us. Shame, but just goes to show how a difference in class the premier league is compared to other European leagues.

to be honest i don thintk there is too much difference between him and mendy in terms of defensive ability - neither are good enough so if we can get decent money for him at the end of the loan then hopefully that ill go towards rebolstering the squad

Every game he played he created many chances with his crossing. Premier league being different class has nothing to do with it.

Getting rid of him is a mistake, the only reason we are doing it is probably because Pep will play Sane there... a player who is leaving us anyways.

Each to their own mate. Everyone entitled to their opinion. Looking back through these posts it's half of us thought he was decent and half of us don't. I'll admit he looked superb for PSV but never reached the same level for City IMO. Hence why I still believe the premier league is a gulf in class.

Rather surprised Pep let him go knowing the injury record of Mendy and Zinchenko. Leaves us with a potential headache if we get past Real Madrid, which I guess Pep thinks maybe we won't.

Mendy, Zinchenko now fit. Laporte can also cover.
