Announcing Injuries on a Friday

Why does Pellegrini give the press and the rest of the world the low-down on all our injuries and confirms who’ll be in/out the day before the game? Surely it’s a gift to any opposing manager. He rarely, if ever, couches it in terms of possibilities; rather, he confirms that X won’t play etc.

Cue Serge trotting out of the tunnel tomorrow...

Probably to stop headlines like

"Pellegrini in massive bust up with dressing room, drops Toure, Aguero, Kompany and Mangala"

Perhaps he thinks that announcing that Aguero isn't playing, 50 mins before kick off, gives the opposition a huge boost.

One of the MEN journalists did tweet earlier that he wouldn't be surprised if Aguero played some part tomorrow.

I know what you mean though. He is incredibly forthright and honest when it comes to who is unavailable. Less so when it comes to the length of the absence, mind you (people like Zabaleta and Kompany seem to be perennially "two weeks away", according to Pellegrini).

I quite like it on the whole, as it doesn't mislead fans and shows that he's not insecure enough to resort to mind games. That said, it wouldn't do any harm from time to time to disrupt opposition plans.

Just for once I would like him to refrain from handing out teamsheets to the opposition , at least keep them guessing as to what formation/tactics to play

I agree .
He needs to start playing mind games .
You don't show the opposition and press who's playing and who's not .

Totally agree.

Look, it's nothing new for Managers to divulge injuries in the pre match pressers but he remains cagey. Even to local journos. He won't even confirm what type of injury Vinny has. If he doesnt say anything then the journos will visit physio room and make their own stories up.

Also, he never actually said that Sergio was out of tomorrow's game but the press have spun it that way.

As soon as I heard him speaking, I fully expect to see Sergio at some stage tomorrow.

What's the point? According to the majority of posters on this forum, he only has one way of playing, is tactically inept and never takes account of the opposition.

Any news on hart, gonna be hard enough against Stoke another team who seem to put that extra bit in when one of the bigger teams turn up,we really can't afford to be dropping anymore points before we head into the Christmas fixtures, will be dissapointed if we don't get the win,but will refrain from predictions until i see the line up...

Quite ironic as he is pretty adept at talking for 5 mins in his post-match presser without actually saying anything!

I seem to remember a few 'injured ' players taking part I don't think he is that adverse to the occasional misleading remark,

It would be nice if he didn't have to name anybody because our medical team actually got them fit for once! I won't hold my breath though.

But he hasn't done that has he?

Bony, Ihenacho, Navas, Silva, KDB, Sterling, Fernando, Fernandinho and Delph are our midfield and forward options. There are so many ways we can be set up with those players. To be honest I would say that Stoke would be more than worried about how we set up up front then at the back...

Think he did it with Aguero before the Juventus home game (said he was definitely out, and then put him on the bench), but can't recall many other occasions.

On the injury front what is going on?? Kompany how long is he going to be out? Aguero we are told by all and sundry his heel injury was a little knock nothing serious and now this is the third game he is going to miss.
