To be fair, I think the Lib Dems have acted quite honourably, in that they took a position and have stuck to it, irrespective of how unpopular it was. It's only more recently that their position has started to gain ground.

It is Labour who have acted like opportunistic tossers throughout. No surprises there.
Hmmm...
Mavis 2017: No Border in the Irish Sea.
BoJo 2018: No Border in the Irish Sea.
2019 : Border in the Irish Sea
Put that in your Tory opportunistic pipe and smoke it.

The whole basis of this new agreement is to allow for a FTA, those noises are coming out of both parties.

I’m saying one will definitely be done but both sides will want one and we have been aligned for 40 years, with the EU, which will help.

I can’t help but be optimistic these days, anymore pessimism and I’ll reach depression about this country.

I understand your position, you've made it 3 times now.

I am the same, and just when you take solace in the beautiful game along comes VAR.

(Narrator: There was an extension). Still good to see some shafts of reality :)

Steve Barclay not bothering with any do-or-die stand on the Brexit transition deadline. Brexit Secretary tells peers the Government is "committed" to the December 2020 date, which it is "working towards" and "we are not envisaging an extension" @ Telegraph

Canada and more recently Japan have negotiated FTA's with the EU. There is no reasonable requirement to be in political union or have any treaty for there to be an FTA.

To us we just want what we have now, for the EU it is of far greater importance to weaponise the issue because the UK is and will become a competitor 30 miles from European shores.

The issue with an FTA for us is the EU will not engage on an FTA until we are leaving by WA or have left (with no deal).

The same applies to our own trade deals with other countries. We are prohibited from even talking to other countries until we get past the WA or obviously leave with no deal.
A key purpose of the unfettered backstop was to mitigate this concern for the EU - we need the WA to be purged of as much as possible of all 'hamstringing' traps.

Ah. So not an in depth research of Tory policies and attitudes on workers rights over the decades then?
No, just a rag trying to slag the Tories off as best they can. God knows how positive the workers' rights initiatives would have looked had I got them from a Tory-supporting paper.

BTW, did you say you used to be a Tory voter? I have to say I am finding that increasingly difficult to believe. You're sounding more and more like Rascal or Len, by the day.

If Parliament has any scrutiny then there is zero chance of that happening. If, God forbid, Johnson's Government are allowed unfettered to do what they want then maybe.

But the overwhelming odds are that there will be no FTA by Dec 2020.

Then we go through the whole extension, traitor, just get it done bullshit all over again.

No deal is still very much on the cards, the ERG nutters are banking on it.
Glad you are getting on-board with the understanding of how dangerous - and stupid - it is giving to any one party control over regulations etc. - especially including such matters of exiting from the Irish protocol

Bit like the OJ trial, better not find brexit guilty or else. Better crash out or else
Better not have a ref2 or else.
Wonder what the odds are on J. Bercow topping himself? If he makes it to the 1st of November unscathed his family unharmed/threatened there will be questioned asked at brexit HQ, just sayin'

Jesus !

You're the one who keeps repeating yourself, apart from my last post pointing this out my posts were expanding my view.

Don't worry I won't respond again. You can have the last word.

Your posts didn’t expand anything, they merely just said you didn’t share my confidence.

That’s fine, you don’t have to but I’ve explained why I think what I do about the FTA.

I was hoping you would come back on why.

Nah. Not a Socialist either. I have no party affiliation. When I voted Tory it was an internationalist, business focused party that supported our Union. Current Tory party is none of these things. Surprised you still bat for them to be honest :)
