I don't know bud but the hard facts are that the waters will need protecting, not only protecting but properly policing with punishments for violation of our sovereign waters. Just like every other independent country does now.

How very Brexit. How very Johnson. Float the idea but have n fucking idea how to make it happen. Sounds good though so thats alright.

Ideas start by floating them, are you insinuating the EU fishermen are going to break the law after Brexit? Things are going to change and we have to adapt, it's no use just saying the same stuff all the time with a deathly toll of negativity.

Thing is if we nationalise railways or utilities ( futile as most are govt owned - just not our govt ) its stuff that exists on this island. How would you nationalise territorial waters? They are outwith the country - we have half a dozen inshore vessels at best so anyone could - and probably will - just sail in and take what they want. What we gonna do? Report them to the EU?

It’s a long read but it shows the nonsense spoken by Gove and Farage about taking back control of our waters. They’ve been privatised and are owned by a very small group of very wealthy families or foreign governments. Keeping quotas will be high on EU demands for a FTA and, as 75% of fish caught in the UK is sold to the EU, there is no doubt that we will agree.

Positive thought and statements are all well and good - its deeds that count and make things happen. Brexit supporters are about to enter a steep learning curve that will show that. If we have virtually no ships to protect our waters whats to stop anyone from anywhere popping in and stealing fish? You are confusing negativity with real issues. Remember the Cod Wars? Well the last ones at any rate.

It's always gone on hasn't it? It doesn't mean that we don't do anything. A quick look online gives us a solution which is bringing ships out of decommission, we don't even know what the landscape will be post Brexit so covering all eventualities is a priority. Are you saying that we shouldn't bother policing our waters? More ships equal more policing no?

We could always fire a missile from one of our subs.

Its that thing about facts and Brexiters again mate. They have bought into a load of bullshit and daren't lose face by admitting it so they will argue black is white and bang on about British fishermen when the truth is those that still remain rely on the EU to sell their product.

I voted to remain but accept that we are leaving, this isn't about moaning about Brexit it's about getting it done.

I'll gloss over the rusty old ships and draw your attention to the first thing that sprung to mind thats in the article and I thought it before I even clicked on the link. Sailors. I doubt we have 4 or 5 trained ships companies sat about twiddling their thumbs. As I say ideas are great - but without proper thought to follow them through to action they are just hot air. I suppose we could recruit and train a coupe of crews whilst we re-comission mothballed ships.

I also love the idea that we will go from Brexit to declaring war on any foreign chaps catching fish, which I don’t remember from the referendum campaign but I’m sure I just missed it...

Ha ha ha - and as I keep saying - its not about positive repetitive 3 word slogans - think about what actually needs to be done - cost + time + politics - its just pie in the sky.

LIAR !! You must have seen the illustrative staged attack launched by Lord Nigel of Farage on the Thames showing how we doughty Englishers will defeat the nasty foreigner in a sea battle by throwing our catch at them?

Total lack of understanding. Where have you been the last three years?
Canada and Japan have arms length deals which basically only removes price tariffs ( but not non price barriers) on certain products. Because they are 'distant' markets the impact is much less on the EU than if they were to agree tariff reductions or removal with a close neighbour ( the UK) without level playing field agreements.
We might comply with EU standards at the moment but when we leave (post deal) we won't comply with future EU standards ( new and modified), hence non tariff barriers will apply or we will unable to supply into that market.
There will also be an impact on Services which you haven't mentioned.
The EU won't want to 'punish' us they will simply want to get the best deal possible for themselves whilst retaining the integrity of their single market (which effectively means limiting the UK benefits of any deal).
The 'punishment' narrative however will be taken up by the media to justify the economic fallout from any future deal and the lies told pre referendum.
Interesting that you are already beginning to echo this message.
Disappointing Len that you pull @Mëtal Bikër up for mentioning 'punishment'

Was it not obvious that he and others, were referring to this 'profound' post:

We will be punished , simple as that. A shot across the bows to stop any other country from leaving. We are about to enter a very dark period in British history which will begin with an immediate call for independence by Scotland and followed by reunification of Ireland. Possibly the deepest longest recession ever experienced and further cuts due to austerity.

No doubt?
Plenty of doubt. The UKs negotiating hand is far, far better than Remainers like to portray.

We could renationalise the waters in the same way that railways etc can be nationalised, compulsory purchase orders and job done. Things can be ironed out it's going to take time but we will more than likely have a Brexit on the harder side, so we have to ensure we are ready for that.
How do you renationalize something that has been sold to countries who won't want to sell? It's not a franchise, we gave away our legal rights under international law.

What part of "in the same way that the IRA must absolutely not be invited to parliament" suggest i have no problem with it....again, youre just making shit up.
The discussion is about Corbyn, he who did exactly that.
Which member of government, at the time, requested that this apparently, key player in the GFA, bring the IRA into parliament?
When was Corbyn sanctioned by government, and congratulated for his efforts in placating the IRA?
Was he lauded for his minutes silence for the IRA, this Kissinger like character?
As Corbyn, according to you, was key in the discussions, what were the positive contributions he made?

This isnt revisionist bullshit.
Saying Corbyn had some sort of benign influence most certainly is.

As this is now irrelevant to this particular thread, start one on Corbyn's achievements,
that should raise a few chuckles.
