I’ve tried to swerve this thread for a while, but presumably even the most staunch Leavers aren’t still claiming there will be any economic upside to Brexit?!

Well the Govt is trumpeting lots of exciting ‘new opportunities’ so probably.

I guess if you happen to have some spare land in Kent you are trying to shift, there is an exciting ‘new opportunity’ to flog it to the Govt for one of its brand new lorry parks.

They’re claiming they never expected it in the first place but it’s what they want anyway. And any problems are the fault of Remainers.

Got to love labour Remainers desperate to frame brexit as a left vs right issue and blame the GE on corbyn. Both the left and right are equally split on Brexit which is why it is such political kryptonite. The liberal left are certainly pro remain, but the working class left tend to be in favour of liberal left economics but socially quite conservative and patriotic - just as likely to wave a union jack as Tommy Robinson. It is this section of the left that defected to tory in the GE.
You explain it so simply............

That there are 'Labour Remainers' on here that don't accept this can only be down to their wilful denial of what is so obviously true

Fuck yeah

I have said previously that many 'Remainers' on here would be fully behind Brexit if that pisihad gotten Corbyn into power.

They can - and do - lie about it - but only to themselves - the rest of us can see straight through the nonsense

yawn

Can’t speak for anyone else, of course, but I certainly wouldn’t.

No need to speak for anyone else when this know it all knows it all

I wouldn’t.

Brexit is still a ridiculous decision for us imo but I’d rather rip the plaster off and go with no deal than be a subservient to the EU, with zero say, indefinitely.

The problem is, there’s about 5% of people, at a guess, with my view, in the country.
Fair enough - but as you say - you are something of an exception amongst Remainers - especially on here

Other people just click "like".

Is this sycophancy or just building your own echo chamber?

Or are you after a peerage from the corrupt liar?

Just seen the 'check, change,go' ad on TV. General feel-good positive messaging. Not sure it has much use beyond trolling Remainers tbh.

Well, that's shite, isn't it?

Check what you need to do that you never had to before.

Cheeky starting in the Scottish capital too...

Seriously, is that a waste of public money or what? It's trolling every taxpayer.

Prompts another genuine (if hypothetical) question - to you and other Remainers......

If Labour had - let's say in the 2015 GE - campaigned on a manifesto pledge to exit the EU and the Conservatives had been campaigning to definitely Remain - would you have voted Labour or Conservative in that GE?

It is also a fair question for Leavers.

I would have of course voted Labour

Farming Trade Commission announced. No teeth, not many environmental interests on it (though the government is planning to subsidise farmers not to grow food rather than to grow food), and six months to produce a report on how to minimise the effects of Brexit (sorry - take the opportunities) which will come out after check change and go is already reality.

And the chairman Tim Smith (appointed by Pret to look at their allergen policies) says we're making too much fuss about food standards but (like the government) seems a bit vague about whether they could negotiate standards away...

“The alarmism recently around issues like imports of chlorinated chicken and hormone-fed beef – both of which are banned in the UK – do neither the industry nor the public any favours.”

Mr Smith did not explicitly rule out the possibility that either product could be imported in the UK as part of a trade deal with the US.

They wouldn't, would they? What a stupid question. Try reality for a change, rather than a stupid hypothesis.

I would have voted Tory.

Brexit is the height of stupidity whoever is peddling it.

Fair play - and respect....

It will be interesting to see how other posters Remain or Leave - state they would have voted - hopefully people can be genuine in their answers

Anyway - pre match drinks are starting

As much as it would have pained me, I'd probably have voted Conservative in that scenario. The short term pain of another Tory administration would be less than the long term damage that Brexit will do imo.
