That would be the Govt quibbling over tens of millions on financial support for Gr Manchester or refusing to spend a few millions on feeding kids over Christmas?

Yet a few billion is a ‘rounding error’? Good to know. Can you let the Govt know this? Thanks.

In other news the Govt has ruled out lowering corporation tax until at least 2022, so I suggest we take that into consideration when discussing the issue.

You’ll have to ask them why they’re arguing about a few quid.
None of that detracts from the headline loss is less than half of one percent of revenue and has many potential benefits.

I's a conservative govt Bob. Fully expect them to put the tax rise onto everyday items - VAT and income, while lowering corporate taxation so we all get to benefit from 'trickle down' economics.

This Govt is incompetent, but even they can figure that increasing everyone’s taxes during a pandemic is not going to be popular, especially if its done to facilitate greater profits to funnel back to shareholders.

Besides, There is also the ‘Brexit dividend’ we were promised. Even if we don’t get it, surely it can be used in lieu of any necessary personal tax increases?

I said i think they should reduce it, not that they were. Surely you agree that we should be getting all companies operating in the UK to pay their fair share of corporation tax via the carrot and stick approach. the internet and european tax havens have made it much much easier for companies to avoid paying their fair share of tax. Fairness is what we are all after surely Bob?

It will be much easier to do now we’ve left the EU and its Junker designed tax avoidance scams.

Given we have abandoned the idea of a digital tax aimed at tech companies, I think we have thrown away our tiny stick.

On a wider note, none of what you posted has anything to do with reducing corporation tax. Which the Govt are not doing anyway. A fact that I still think was worth mentioning.

Clearly, the Govt is not seeing these ‘potential benefits’. You should write and let them know.

you do realise policies change? You clearly are in favour of large companies avoiding their share of tax or are you just being obtuse for the sake of it? It wouldn't be the first time.

Its not been abandoned, its been implemented.

2% on all sales. Ebay to their credit have absorbed and will pay up.

Amazon you wont be surprised have refused and will pass on to its 3rd party sellers.

Jeff is a ****!

Yes. The Govt may increase corporation tax for example.

Not sure how linking to a Govt site stating Govt policy on Corporation tax for the next two years is a sign I am in favour of tax dodging by large companies, but hey ho.

Take it from the top boys...

‘The UK has abandoned the idea of a digital tax’ - Me

’It‘s been implemented, but Amazon have refused’ - You

This seems to me to be absolutely outrageous,” said Lord Leigh of Hurley, the Conservative peer and former party treasurer, in the House of Lords. “It is clear that the UK government is not taxing Amazon properly and is allowing it to avoid tax on its own sales through the marketplace.” - Oh sweet Lord.

I don't want to vote for least worst, I want to vote for first best. Voting for least worst could give a mandate to something I don't believe in and why on earth would I do that. Democracy is far too important to waste a vote on a least worst basis. Its anti democratic, because I would be casting a vote in the negative and democracy should be about casting a vote in the positive. By being anti, I could be depriving people of their democratic right to be for something.
So you are saying you empathise with America?
