Another new Brexit thread

If I understand you correctly you're suggesting that the UK and the EU will agree a regressive trade deal starting with full alignment on 1.1.2021 and then introduction of tariffs and quotas as and when the UK deviates.
New one on me but who knows?
Not talking about 2021 Len - I've as much knowledge as you on what the situation will be at the end of the transition (no idea), but as of brexit happening this week, the only significant change in terms of legislation /alignment is that we will not be members. Common sense would suggest we don't change much more in terms of alignment by Feb 21, unless of course the hardliners here seek to do so or the EU act in a spiteful way.

Come into my parlour said the spider to the fly.....................Trump knows Johnson will be so fucking desperate he will agree to anything to get a deal by 31/12/2020

I think it's just as likely trump will cut us a decent deal as an act of pettiness against EU 'liberals' as seek to pick the bones of the UK economy. I also think he'll be much more interested in our share of the global arms trade than selling us chicken breasts and pharmaceuticals.

Trump needs to win in every deal ..... he views everyone on the otherside of the table an enemy ... we export more to the US than we import....you really think your assessment is correct?

No idea if I'm correct - just as you have no idea if you are. It does seem to me that my childlike optimism is nicely counterbalanced by Remainers determination to see every glass as half empty though. Maybe the truth lies somewhere in the middle and neither of us are correct?

Trump sees himself as the ace negotiator. Faced with a trade deal with an "opponent" that is up against a self imposed deadline that needs a deal with a major economy to show to his voters that he can accomplish something why on earth do you think someone like Trump wouldn't go for the throat? Thats not half full or empty thats an assessment of the situation based on both men's needs.

Armageddon is all they have left :)

Why wouldn`t any of our future trading partners go for the throat. Who can blame them, I`d want our government to go for the throat.

It’s a bit difficult to go for the throat when you’re effectively a sheep up against a wolf.

Although ironically the one area where the UK has some clout is in Financial Services so we’ll probably end up with a reasonable deal in that area and get shat on elsewhere, which will disproportionately negatively impact the more Brexit leaning areas.

If the glass is somewhere between half full and half empty then I am truly lost
