I could be wrong, as i never got a reply when i asked, but im nearly certain he lives in Ireland....

This came from conversations a long time ago...possibly about the NI situation...and it stuck with me, obvious as i live in NI
You’re right about being wrong, I’m an Englishman who lives in England.
I don’t know what point I failed to address, and my apologies if I didn’t, but if you want to repeat it, l’ll respond.

amazing isn’t people on this thread telling themselves where you actually live and convincing each other they are right about where YOU live

There's the knock on effects for the health service as well. Lower food standards will mean lower cost to the consumer at the til, but we're already a pretty unhealthy nation as it is, and this could contribute further to the burden on the NHS in the long term. It seems tho that the reason we won't introduce legislation on this is that it would knacker any deal with the USA.
There are soooo many posts banging on about the intent of the UK to lower food standards

Can any of you please explain why you are so adamant that a Labour government would do that?

I'm not sure if that's missing a "not" or just a silly question. I'll assume the "not" is missing.

Labour would have prioritised a deal with the EU, a realistic non-unicorn deal paying for access to the SM, so no reason to go crawling to the USA for a deal allowing lower standard food imports.

I’ve seen a lot of posts speculating that food standards could fall victim to a trade deal with the US in particular but no-one knows for sure if that will happen, like the Brexit flag wavers can’t be certain it won’t.

It seems a silly question to ask why anyone is adamant a Labour government would do that when the trade deals currently and for the next few years are being negotiated by a Tory government. What was your thinking in framing that question? Might help if you point out who has made that suggestion

But all those posters banging on about this are simply and clearly rambling inconsistently in their desperate need to scaremonger.

The same posters were only recently stating clearly that the incoming US government would not do a trade deal with this current UK government - so the reality is that an FTA between the US and UK will be agreed between 2 new administrations

So no - not really a silly question is it?

Some posters are just so desperate to paint everything so negative - they cannot even spot when they are contradicting themselves.

Well as I understand it there was a concern in respect of the Irish border situation and the GFA where it was American politicians who were saying there would be no trade deal if the agreement was compromised and some posters quoted them. Again all ifs, buts and maybes but a potential all the same.

The reality is that whoever wins the US election it is the current Tory government that will be negotiating a trade deal with them. It is inconceivable that this would be in abeyance for three years. So, yes, it was a silly question. The best Labour can hope for is inheriting a trade deal that serves UK interests without compromising too much on those much discussed food standards or allows the US to build stakes in our health care system

Oh - OK

So you are saying that a Biden government is going to agree an FTA with the UK before the next UK GE?

Would that be because it will be right up the priority list?

OK - fair enough to hold your opinions - and to judge that the views of others are silly

Forgive me if I retain my view that the Remainers on here that have been banging on for a long time that the USA will not do that under Biden and are now saying the opposite are also being - let's say - a bit silly
